Melissa Lee is removed from the Broadcasting/Media portfolio:
Paul Goldsmith to take over. Hopefully he proves to be more competent in the role than she was.
This government is looking more and more like the last one.

When you take a similar approach across a range of government policies then you end up with these same sacred cows that can't be touched and a whole range of other worthy initiatives not funded.
Maybe they should build fewer roads. That should free up some funding. Even better, make them toll roads and use the tolls to buy lunch for the kiddies!

The Key-English one, the Ardern-Hipkins one, or both?
"I regret to say that we of the F.B.I. are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce." — J. Edgar Hoover
"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell
Good riddance. Melissa handled her portfolio incompetentLee 😆

Mark Jennings, who ran TV3's newsroom for many years and now runs the Newsroom website, says she was out of her depth in the role (despite her being a senior minister), and I'm inclined to agree with him. Let's see what Goldsmith does.
Though for present Government you just need to be good with the butchers knife while,
having the skills of John Key to stonewall interviews with a carefree 'nothing to see here' air.
Melissa's failing may just be, not able to separate message from reality.
So one hesitation and interviewer knows they have a thread to pull at.
So you avoid interviews, your conscience won't allow you to spin?

Easier to spin the campaign slogans instead of responding to anyone, or answering anyone. Works for Christopher

An interesting look at how poorly Melissa Lee did in the role and that few in the media industry will be missing her. Also mentions Penny Simmonds being moved on as well.
Funny how these two were quite vocal while they were in opposition, only to become fairly useless with their respective portfolios once they came into government.

It's easy to criticise (says I, wryly). Much harder to have a better solution.

Graeme finally got his surgery date and was in a hospital gown, having already met with the surgeon and had his body marked for where the incision would be made.
He waited an hour before an anesthetist came in with the bad news - the operation would not go ahead as the hospital was short of technicians.

Hospitals have been ordered to end double shifts, not backfill staff when people were sick, cut back on public holiday staffing and encourage more people to take annual leave.
Graeme said it was “disastrous” and while the Government gave landlords a break, it was cutting costs on people’s health.

Oh, what a surprise. National doesn't care about health or education. It's all about tax cuts for friends, road projects for friends and oil exploration. For friends.

Anyone got ideas on how to short the NZ housing market?
In the meantime, Aussie housing activist "PurplePingers" has taken matters into his own hands and compiled maps of potentially squattable ghost houses across the Tasman. He's thought out loud of a NZ map following suit.

Yes, become a builder, build houses and sell them at a loss.
