Hi, but he has not been censored, his original factless tweet is still there for all to see, it just means the sheep might realise something rather than taking all at face value from a valueless entity.

Either that or they'll believe Trump's claims that he's being censored by a conspiracy against him.

Given that these are self-selected MAGA-hatters, which option do you think is the more likely?

The Washington Post - Opinion - Trump’s latest display isn’t just deranged. It’s also an abuse of power.

May 28, 2020

The news that Twitter has dared to attach the mildest of correctives to President Trump’s latest false tweets - prompting threats of direct retribution from Trump - reopens the long-running debate over the true nature of the menace that Trump’s autocratic instincts pose to democracy.

That debate pits those who see Trump as a clownish and ineffective autocrat wannabe against those who see a much more insidiously destructive form of corruption at work.

What’s happening right now strongly supports the latter interpretation.

Trump and his campaign are quite literally claiming the right to lie to the American people about potentially lifesaving voting options during a pandemic - entirely free of accountability.

They are explicitly declaring that any effort to correct those lies will be cast as an affront to the free speech of conservatives.

Trump just unloaded in a fury at Twitter ... the object of Trump’s rage is Twitter’s decision to affix a fact check to Trump’s lies about vote-by-mail.

Trump has been falsely claiming that this will lead to vote fraud, forgeries and even ineligible voters getting ballots.

In response, Twitter added a few links to corrective stories and a few lines clarifying that there’s “no evidence that mail-in ballots are linked to voter fraud” and that ballots are mailed only to registered voters. ...

The tweets spreading Trump’s lies about voter fraud remain posted, and he has already posted more such lies that do not yet have any such corrective appended. ...

REPUBLICAN CONVENTION TO MOVE FROM NORTH CAROLINA TO MOSCOW

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In an escalation of his spat with the Democratic governor of North Carolina, Donald Trump plans to relocate the 2020 Republican National Convention from Charlotte to Moscow.

“North Carolina has been difficult every step of the way, while Moscow has always been very helpful to me,” Trump wrote, in one of a series of early-morning tweets.

Additionally, Trump argued, moving the R.N.C. to Moscow would save the Republicans millions in airfare. “The most important people working on our 2020 campaign will already be there.”

Finally, he claimed that Moscow boasts far better accommodations than “that sad city of losers, Charlotte.”

“I've had some great times at the Moscow Ritz,” Trump wrote. "Very friendly staff".

Trump's bypassing lawmakers in congress to use an executive order to censor (social) media from criticising (by fact-checking) his lies is another step toward full Nazi-style fascist / totalitarian takeover.

The "Trump Slump" is inescapable - Trump's WH response is only focused on one thing - reelection by any means (fair or foul - but mainly foul).

From interest.co.nz this morning:

American jobless claims have now risen almost +41 mln in the past ten weeks, after another +2.1 mln were added last week. The weekly additions may be declining, but still, a backlog may be leaving many uncounted.

And US durable goods order levels are still crashing lower. In March they fell -16.6% month-on-month and in April they were down -17.2% on that basis. That leaves them an eye-watering -29% lower than the same month a year ago. Capital goods orders are down -27% on that basis. There has never been anything like these sorts of falls for American durable goods production, ever.

Things were declining in March before the April free-fall. US GDP fell -5.0% in Q1-2020 after rising +2.1% in Q4-2019. That is a huge change, and April data isn't included yet. To get an idea of what Q2-2020 will look like, the Atlanta Fed's GDPNow estimate says it will be down at the rate of -40%. Again, a collapse at this level is unprecedented. This is a world-scale economic shock.

The executive order signed today has been deemed as irrelevant by a series of sources. Take Techdirt for example: "The Two Things To Understand About Trump's Executive Order On Social Media: (1) It's A Distraction (2) It's Legally Meaningless" and "Moderation v. Discretion v. Censorship: They're Not The Same"

Per mod request I am placing this post here instead of a separate thread. I think it is still worthy of discussion:

While anything is definitely possible, Trump seems to be losing electoral support. There is at least a reasonable chance that he will lose the next election.

He has spent the past three years stacking the deck as much as possible in his favour, by dismissing or replacing those who might keep him in check, by executive order, by judicial appointments, by curbing voting rights, by constant lies, by twisting the system wherever possible in his favour. In spite of all this, he could still lose the election.

In view  of his behaviour up to now, it seems to me quite possible that he could refuse to honour the result if it goes against him. I would imagine there are endless ways his minions could challenge the result and tie the courts up in knots for years. I can imagine his idiot supporters lining the streets with their ridiculous camouflage gear and military assault weapons. I can even imagine civil war if he still has enough supporters in the military. How far are people prepared to go or would they respect the oaths they had made? I can imagine a lot of horrible things but my question here is what are the realistic prospects of any of this happening? What happens if Trump simply refuses to leave?

I think those opinions about the executive order were written based on what had been said it would contain - but before it was signed and released.
