No I am not making stuff up.

My point is that there will be many many more to come, you being ignorant if you truly believe thats all issues outstanding. There is no settlement date yet for settlements (correct me if I am wrong). Governments change, and so will pressure to look into all new future claims. New issues come up. The gravy train is far from reaching its destination, and still had a long way to go.

The Maori seats were established when Maori were 50% of the population of NZ. They got 4 seats and the white folk got the rest.

Every election Maori get the chance to affirm they want to remain on / leave / join the Maori electoral roll. So, in effect, there is a rolling referendum going on continuously. Roughly 55% opt for the Maori roll.

Absolutely NO WAY should anyone else be able to vote the Maori seats out of existence. Letting a bigoted, ignorant majority vote away the seats of a minority would be a gross injustice from any angle.

If there is to be any referendum on this, Maori should be the only people voting in it.

Or maybe Maori should be voting in a referendum to get rid of the general seats. All these other people have made a pig's ear of the environment and social policy and destroyed entire industries over the past few decades.

If that makes no sense....then nor does letting Maori-hating "Bruce" or "Betty" from Te Atatu vote to get rid of Maori seats.

I agree. A pity as its a relevant topic, but of little use when it gets side walled by one poster who has clear extreme biases on a few political topics as evidenced in this forum. It thus degrades into a ranting fest and not a serious discussion

I guess its time to lock the thread when the left believes its time and we have different views? Then it becomes an irrelevant thread?

I do tent to agree on this. Maybe its time to shutdown the Trump thread too?

Calling the majority of New Zealanders a "bigoted, ignorant majority" is acceptable, yet complaining about non democracy is not.

There is still lots to be discussed here. My point about apartheid should be debated don't you think?

No - not really.

Positive discrimination aka "affirmative action" does have a history of some success in reducing negative social indicators.

Apartheid (in SA) had the sole intent of preserving massive privilege to a small white minority who held all the wealth - and held on to that behind the barrel of a gun.

There's nothing to debate - you're on a soap box - and at risk of coming across as a racist.

This is exactly why the seats should be abolished due to a minority wanting to have it all without contributing in any way.

I also agree that this thread should now be closed as it has turned into racial slander.

Minority need protection. I don't know how many thousands of black lives in America have been murdered by police and nothing happens.

ONE white gets killed and it's immediately classified as homicide with resignation of police chief. Unprecedented.

If protection of minority is apartheid then America and Australia need apartheid like NZ.

So you'd prefer to wait for the equivalent of turkeys voting for an early thanksgiving?

Well, not me. Special representation of a minority based on their race is the very definition of racism and that minority will always seek to hold onto that imbalance. The continued existence of the maori seats is a gross injustice to democracy.
