The Lincoln Project is an odd group.

From Wikipedia: "It's an American political action committee formed in late 2019 by several prominent Republicans and former Republicans.

The goal of the committee is to prevent the reelection of Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election."

I've heard some commentators saying Joe Biden's team, the Democratic National Committee, is letting the Lincoln Project create most of the "messaging."

In other words, the DNC is less effective than disgruntled Republicans in reaching voters.

Politics truly does create strange bedfellows.

Or perhaps "what goes around comes around."

I don't think all Republicans support Trump or feel comfortable with what he represents. Those who uphold 'traditional' conservative Republican values are probably appalled at the direction he has taken the party. They feel betrayed by him and what he has done. They want him gone and they want a 'real' Republican candidate in his place, who can win an election in an honest competition. Who better at persuading fellow Republicans than other Republicans who feel they have been deceived and betrayed? No wonder the Democrats are happy to let them lead the charge. They can add their own fire when the time is right.

If you are at all anywhere close to a strategist, you probably also see that the economy is going to continue being bad and there is a good chance Democrats again will have to tighten spending to reduce the gigantic deficit that Trump will leave behind.

That all makes for a hard time for most people - and that hard time is going to be blamed on the Democrats if they win the election - making it that much easier for a Republican to win and take over after the horrid work is done.

That would be my issue if I was the Democrats, who in their right mind would want to inherit this disaster? Give the Republicans another term to fully marinate in the crap they've created and then come in and get about three terms in a row just for not being a Republican.

The problem with that theory is that after 8 years of Trump chaos, democracy would probably be dead in the USA, and Trump or one of his cronies would be President for Life (like Putin).

For one thing, his slide into imbecility will be so advanced by then that no more than about 1/3 of the US population would still vote for him.

Surprised there hasn't been a palace coup yet since it's fairly likely he's going to lose the Republicans the election, and holding onto power at any cost seems to be the MO there.

Not for peace & not for detante (Kim blew up the border joint liaison office just a couple of weeks ago), not for trade, not for prisoner release, not for human rights issue, not for nuclear issues. NOT for anything did Trump carry out that little escapade other than for Trumps own aggrandisement❗️

And that was the ONLY reason Trump did it❗️

No need to so willingly eat up the deep national security state propaganda, that a US president cannot sit and physically meet with a North Korean leader. Why can't they? Why is this bad?

I didn't mean you guys as "critics" moaning, I meant the journalists writing articles - mainstream media is extremely hawkish, and there literally are no consequences for politicians wasting $100s of Billions and young American lives on ever lasting wars, because they are profitable.

Virtually impossible for the 22nd amendment to be changed - 2/3 of the house AND senate, OR 2/3 of the (50) states legislatures, are not going to vote for an El-Presidente-for-life

All very nice, but Trump's increased the US military budget to $721 billion, sent an additional 3,000 troops to Afghanistan in 2017, dropped the "MOAB" - and seems to have lost the trust of basically everybody - including many in his own administration.

Anyway - in his own words:

He changed his mind on that pretty fast.

Trump didn't do any of those things, Trump is not the military commander-in-chief, and does not have the power to send additional troops or increase budgets.

The national security state is in charge, they made those decisions. They are bi-partisan, both parties are bloodthirsty warmongers - the House Armed Services committee just voted for policies that constrain the Afghan drawdown - they have milestones (8,000 troops, then 4,000) codified as law, into the Military budget, using conditions that are impossible to achieve, security conditions that haven't been met ever, so far during this $1T 20 year war.

That is the perfect example of neocon bipartisanship - the warmongering neocon bipartisan coalition in congress, beats the war drum, and has stopped the President drawing down troops. Its insane.

The Russian bounty story, is deep-state propaganda, to derail the Taliban peace process and keep America's sons in Afghanistan for another 20 years.
