BBC News -  Trump moves to pull US out of World Health Organization

today

President Donald Trump has formally moved to withdraw the US from the World Health Organization (WHO).

The president had made his intentions clear in late May, accusing the WHO of being under China's control in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Despite calls from the EU and others, he said he would pull out of the UN agency and redirect funds elsewhere.

He has now notified the UN and Congress of his intentions, although the process could take at least a year.

Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN secretary-general, confirmed the US had notified it of its withdrawal, effective as of 6 July 2021. ...

Joe Biden tweeted:

Given how badly Covid was handled in the states (which I know is a hard job given the attitude of individuals towards their civil rights and individual governor in each state thinking differently), surely, even though he hasnt pressed any red buttons, its highly unlikely he will get another go at the Job?

Lols that gave me a smile. You would think given his age and the main R number being in his age bracket he would wear masks etc.

Was that chemical he was supposedly drinking true or just a beat up in the media?

Firing your whipping-boy seems like a bit of a footshoot by El Presidente. Still, he's not exactly known for his thinking ability.

So all the polls were wrong? I would like to see Joe win, believe me - I think America definitely needs to be lead in a different direction - but after 2016 I'm quite wary of what the polls say. Hell, even Trump himself didn't think he was going to win.

I think Rasmussen called it.

They adjust poll results for "likely" voters as opposed to "eligible" voters, which tends to make their poll favour Republicans.  They get criticised for adjusting polls like that - but it seems to work - especially given the poor turnout in polls.

The Trump campaign was pretty successful in convincing Bernie supporters and Black voters that they'd been betrayed - so not voting was a "protest vote" (no it isn't).

This time - who knows?  There's been a lot of coverage of voter-suppression, BLM will have motivated voters, plus there's a pandemic going on.  Rasmussen is predicting a Biden win, and puts Biden ahead of Trump in approval polls by 8 points.

RCP aggregates other polls and betting odds.  Betting odds have Biden ahead by about 18 points.  RCP electoral college polls have Biden at 222, Trump at 125, and 195 "toss ups".

Senate votes polls have Reps ahead by one, with 5 "toss ups".  That's a problem - even if Dems do have a majority, they can't get the supermajority needed for constitutional reform - which is needed to prevent a future Trump - or a worse monster.

One explanation I read back in 2016 is the polling analysts weight their polls according to predicted turnouts. In 2008 and to a lesser degree in 2012 they got the votes for Obama lower than the actual because they weight them according to the turn out from the previous two elections and as such under-counted the predicted African American turn out. In 2016 they continued that but this time over-estimated the African American turnout because they used the turn out from the previous two elections as if nothing major had changed between them.

To err is human, to forgive ... is not Trump.

Like Trump's university entrance test, I wonder if he is paying someone to take his coronavirus tests for him? :)

Actually, what the hell was Trump University about? Was it some scam of his? I remember hearing a little about it around the election but not much since then.

It was pure scam.  Not a "university" - but would offer worthless qualifications at a very high price - sold to people who couldn't really afford it using high pressure sales tactics.  Trump got sued (class action) and settled - paying back $25 million.

Trump probably looks at US CDC data - and believes it's a clear sign he's winning:
