No, I mean you, pumpedd and Wiggum are mistaken in thinking she hasn't resigned from Parliament entirely. She definitely has.

She will retire from Parliament at the election, leaving the Green Party to go into a general election with a single leader for the first time in its history.

Co-leader James Shaw said Turei will no longer be on the Green Party list but will campaign for the party vote only in Te Tai Tonga, Shaw said.

Theoretically if she won in her electorate she would be returned to Parliament but there is zero chance of that.

Apologies for my frustration in my previous post - the edit was deserved.

Not sure what you guys are talking about but she has removed herself from the party list so will almost certainly be gone after the election. As there are 45 days left in this term, I'm not really sure why you're baying for more blood.

She has only stepped down from her leadership roll in the greens. So I take it she is still with the greens, and will still be campaigning for her electorate? Not sure though? In other words can still end up back in parliament! If that is the case, well then NO its not good enough.

There are 3 kinds of voters in NZ (I think)

- National will always vote National

- The others vote between NZ First, Labour, Green

- Then there are the undecided who are likely to vote NZ First, Labour, Green

Ok maybe I don't know what I'm talking about ... !

Correct! (In the nicest possible way)

Many National voters ONlY vote National (Upbringing, i'm well off, etc)

Many Labour voters ONLY vote Labour (Upbringing, i'm a blue collar worker, etc)

I was going to say

National always vote National

Labour would normally vote Labour but could jump to NZ First or Greens

The rest who are undecided or the unsure if they'd vote, are more likely, if they vote, to vote for Labour, NZ First, Greens.

That's my observation.

I wasn't likely to vote Greens this election anyways, but even after she has quit, the damage done to the Greens by Shaw in defending her and carrying on the way he did a couple of days ago, has completely ensured I will not. He also needs to step down in my opinion. Nothing less would do.

I find it most surprising she came out yesterday saying she wouldn't resign for any reason and today quits. I don't think they have a clue what is going on, and it deeply concerns me.

The dazzling lack of foresight by their advisors in the way this whole thing has been handled is unbelievable. A person with even a modicum of decency would have advised a much better course of action. A simple speech acknowledging the mistake, showing remorse, acknowleding how bad it looked and that she felt it was the right thing to do at the time for her family, but upon reflection she understands how wrong it was and what kind of example that has set, offering to resign but making a statement to the effect that they intended to do something to ensure that others didn't feel they needed to do the same would have been quite effective.

Great post. On the negative, she used this as a vote tool, but I dont know. She was on the bones of her toosh then, I dont know

While the benefit fraud was $X what REALLY gets me is the election fraud. The one vote makes no difference, but she was or wants to be a politician and does that?? It's like I want to be a banker, so I rob one to see what its like. Worse, as she will and has represented us. That one vote means far more to me than the $x other fraud, and special note to the word "other"

The total outrage about Turei leaves me a bit cold. The election "fraud" was silly stuff that people in their late teens and early 20s do. It had no impact as she was voting for a joke party. Given that John Key did exactly the same thing when he was a candidate for Helensville it's a bit hard to get that upset about it.

While the benefit fraud was not good even the most semantic people in this thread couldn't claim that she was well off. She was a young mum struggling to make ends meet while get an education. I view that as far less of an offence than Bill English claiming an allowance that he had no moral right to claim. That he sought legal advice on claiming it only reinforces that he knew it was wrong but wanted the money. He and his family were very comfortable and weren't struggling. Similarly his selective memory about Todd Barclay hasn't had anyone outraged in this thread.

MPs are people. People are imperfect, I get criticism for their behaviour but unless you can hold every politician to the same standard I find it hard to take your outrage seriously.

Now they have that. Are they happy? No, now they want her gone from parliament. They are getting that too. So I guess the next thing is to demand she be jailed.

This is pure mob rule, just like the witch-burnings and lynchings. Personally, I feel sorry for her. She tried to do something she thought would be good but it turned very bad. She is not the personification of all evil. She is someone who made a few mistakes when she was young and then a bad miscalculation when she was older. Her career is in ruins, maybe her life as well. She badly shot herself in the foot. A little compassion might be in order, but I guess that is too much for those rushing to stick the knife in. Some of you must have really bad sex lives.

Politics is never about who is the cleanest or who commits what crime.

It's about how you appear to the voters. Voter like you -> in. Voter no like you -> out. You could be a mass murderer (Philippines President) and they still vote for you.

There is some very good writing amongst some of the sillier stuff. Finlay Macdonald wrote an excellent piece on radio NZ website as well. Its probably the closest thing I've read to my own opinion.

Something good about all of this is that I found out that NZ has a Taxpayers Union, a union to stand up for hardworking New Zealand taxpayers. Its good to learn that they stand up against this sort of rort. I'm keen to start making some donations.

I do get what you are saying. Me, I want politicians and especially leaders, to not have trust issues. Yes, i think there was a bigger reaction than warranted,

and others including leaders have also been dodgy and got away with it, which is unfair. I fee the Greens need a clean Green leader

You dont mean the latest polls, thats silly if you do. Greens rose on Turei's admission. They wont bleed due to her ousting. Peters has done nothing to deserve his poll drop, he has been quiet. Its simply Labour voters who left because of Little, now returning. Their Lab/Green/NZF percentage is static, same as the poor polls on 31 July

Just donate to ACT. They are one and the same, the "Union" is a right wing propaganda group. For example they were outraged by Mojo Mathers spending $550 to travel to Masterton however they didn't say a word about the Oravida scandal, where Collins used a taxpayer funded trip to help a company which her husband is connected to.

They don't stand up for "hard working New Zealand taxpayers", they are a right wing hit squad. There is a significant difference.

Inconclusive. Next poll they will change, a bit up a bit down, margin of error stuff. In any case its all between the Lab/Greeen/NZF, there is no swing, so its just minor internal juggling in reality
