other countries haven't been expelling spies, they've been expelling diplomats. Big difference.

Unless that was sarcasm, you might want to take another look... They've been expelling "undeclared intelligence officers"

Fair call. The NZH article I read didn't give much detail about the other nations expulsions, it just implied they were run-of-the-mill diplomats.

This is damning.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=12022002

In just two weeks, there have been at least eight, all either woefully mishandled by Ardern or reflecting the inherent instability of the first Government reliant on both NZ First and the Greens.

Personally I found that article a lot less than damning. It provides some reasonable balance saying that Clark's government faced similar challenges initially and went on to govern sucessfully for another two terms.

It also referenced Clark's 'tough' leadership style, implying that's what get her through. It wasn't drawing a parallel between her and Adern in that respect. It could be Adern is on a slippery slope to oblivion if she fails to pull the government together again into a semi-coherent organisation.

It really kinda annoys me that Jacinda has been pretty much hiding in her office throughout all of this, and people I speak to are damning of it, but it doesn't really seem to be pervading much. I will be interested in the polls.

It's a shame this is all happening at once and people have such short memories. This should really cause serious soul searching amongst voters.

This is a serious issue as all our KEY allies have expelled Russians in a show of force.....yet the PM says we haven't because we have no spies here...she should resign.

You realize that if she resigns, Winston Peters would be PM? The thought makes me shudder.

which at that point if I recall, Clark was not known for at all. This reputation developed.

Actually, what was said was:

there was never any doubt she (Clark) was almost always the smartest person in the room and certainly the toughest.

(It was the party discipline that was developed over time.)

Ardern doesn't have these qualities.  In fact, she's practically Clark's mirror image at the opposite end of those respective scales.

Her pregnancy will not be helping her. To say that having an extremely demanding job and being first time pregnant is easy is utter rubbish. This is going to get tougher and her physical and emotional strength is going to be really tested. Her choice.

I think its time to bring a comparison of the previous Govt and this one into problems they have encountered. All parties will have difficulties and problems in their organisations just like most businesses and organisations (DBH, councils etc)
Most posters on this forum are jumping for joy with the incidents which have occurred since this Coalition took over. I don’t need to list them. I agree they need to be addressed. But we need to keep out the stupid and uncalled for comments like I don’t like the way she or he Sits, talks, stands or the fact she is a woman and pregnant etc.
Lets look at the list of problems the previous Govt had and rate and compare them to this present group
BE and the Todd Barclay affair
Judith Collins and Chinese connection
John Key and the Hair pulling
Murray McCully and the legal documents
Steven Joyce and the taxi costs, his resignation (throwing out his toys)
Jonathan Coleman resignation By election costing millions of dollars (throwing out his toys)
Paula Bennet trying to influence the court system.
I think that’s enough.
How do they compare with this present Govt?
The discussion on policy and whether we agree with them should be the main focus of this forum in my opinion but unfortunately this seems to be beyond some people in this forum and they rub their hands together with glee when this present group run into difficulties.

You are at it again. You aren't discussing the current Government and it's issues or strengths, you are trying to change the focus from it's issues to others that have had issues.

You are great at trying to minimize the poor start this Government has had. It's time you start being a little real and admit they aren't living up to the fairy tales that JA told during her Campaign.

It's ok to admit when you are wrong.

We are never going to agree on policy, but if you aren't deeply concerned by now, you aren't paying attention.

So back to the snark? You managed to hold it off for what? Two posts?

Do you not agree with the premise of the article (Which for the record, if you check, *I* did not write) ? If you don't agree, why do you not provide an alternative set of evidence or at least an argument to support the view that the article is incorrect.

Actually I find myself agreeing with you more and more. I wish I didn't but I do think the government has had enough time to prove itself and I think Ardern has been making some very silly beginner's mistakes. But this is our government, at least until the next election, unless something drastic happens. You seem to still act like the election result was a mistake. It wasn't. It was the election result.

I apologize, my sarcasm detector malfunctioned.

I believe Winston backed the wrong party, I do not dispute the legality of his decision.

I have never claimed there was any question to the legality of the decision.

Just because it's our Government, doesn't mean we have to like it, or like the way they do their jobs, nor do we have to support them just because they are the Government. I support decisions and actions they take that I perceive to benefit NZ.

Some of their policies had potential to be great, but they weren't executed or planned properly and the ONLY Policy I really liked was the airport train in Auckland, and I have heard on the grapevine it won't fit in the budget and they are going to ditch it.

Politics is fickle. Often the importance things don't feature in the public discussion (like important policy), taking second place to scandals.

Every government has problems, the difference between this one and the previous is that despite the scandals, they got things done. Unfortunately their signature Kiwibuild scheme has just turned into an embarrassment for them, when it should have been the single policy saving their hide. At this rate their legacy will be limited one glorious achievement of joining the TPP 🤣

Can you give us your honest answer to your own question. I'd be interested in how you actually view it?
