I can't wait to hear his 100 day plan to drain the swamp and see the plans for his new wall.

Voters have started their plan already. Big protests and scuffles outside Trump Tower at the moment.

Yes that is the new whiny way of it as we have seen with Brexit. Don't like the answer? Whine and stamp your tiny feet. After all, it's not as if your predecessors ever had to live with democratic outcomes they wanted less than a hole in the head, is it?

Meh, it's nothing, two weeks from now, people will have settled down a little. Their rioting etc won't really change anything.

Bottom line is, 1 in every 2 people decided they wanted him.

Fully agree. The world is getting used to it. But taking to the streets has become a stock reply by some Americans. Next thing a Latino will get hurt in one, then it escalates.

If protests start between supporters from both sides it could get nasty. Or as you say, fade, hopefully. IMHO I feel this activist like behaviour may well become common in upcoming weeks

yep that's democracy, you get the good you get the bad. If they don't want that then don't live in a democracy.

It'd be a very strange turn of events if a powerful megalomaniac leader, who on many occasions has incited hatred to gain popular support during his rise, is going to go around the world spreading love and peace.

He's pro-torture and said he'd deliberately "target and kill the families and children" of enemies.

The President does not rule alone, the President is not a Dictator.

But he might be after 4 years..  El President for life..

the thing i most worry about trump is his law and order policies , he is trying to overturn the Obama bill that stops military hardware going to the police and he wants police to be the main option in keeping crime under control by making them more pro active and aggressive with criminals. If he does their will be riots in the inner cities .

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Preliminary results indicate that turnout as % of voter age population was the lowest on record, at 48.62%

That's remarkably low under the circumstances.  More than half didn't care enough to vote?

Less than one in 4 people of voting age in the US cast a vote for Trump.  Clinton gained more popular votes by a small margin than Trump.

Yes and the political elite are trying to undermine the Article 50 process. As Nigel Farage warned, this will be potential suicide for the British political system. UK and US have the same problem essentially, all parties have a core of globalists in them and they will combine to try and turn over what Joe Public have democratically voted for. I expect to see attempts to further discredit Trump by the opposition and from some on his own side too.

Perhaps the political elite may force major unrest in the next couple of months to bring about marshall law and therefore keep a hold of power under that ruling.

Sounds stupid? We've witnessed some strange things with both Brexit and the race to the Whitehouse.

Well they've had a Fistful of Dollars for the last several years.

Anyway, where better to stage a spaghetti western than NY... maybe that should be a spaghetti eastern.

That's stupid, these protests by the anti Trump sector shows that the so called greatest democracy does not really believe in democracy.

Indeed.

...and to shamelessly steal someone else's sentiments:

When all the non-racist, non-misogynist, non-homophobic, non-bigoted, everyday ordinary people get so sick of you calling them racists, misogynists, homophobes and bigots that they go out any vote against your candidate, do you:

A. Reevaluate your personal conduct and strategy of convincing people to share your politics?

Or.

B. Call them racists, misogynists, homophobes and bigots and yell at them even more?

It would seem that quite a few Americans are choosing B.  And that's exactly why their candidate lost.

"Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and a chance to lead," she finished, before moving towards the crowd to hug and console her people.

It's actually a pretty good sentiment. I was dead against Trump, but I woke this morning marvelling at what he had managed to achieve. I don't believe (all) his motives are evil or nefarious. I do think he wants America to be better.  His definition of better is different from some of us, but that is the basis by which we have opposition parties.

I think it's reasonable to have an open mind and let the evidence of his Presidency speak for itself.
