If he runs against one of the penguins of Madagascar, the penguin will win. I'm not hugely impressed by the intelligence of the average American but I do know it's not that low. At the moment Trump is competing in a a limited arena taken over by loud-mouthed fundamentalists and angry reactionaries. When he has to go before the entire population, he will quickly learn just how much he is not universally loved.

He polled just over 34,000 votes in Nevada. That's about 1% of the population of the state and 0.001% of the entire US population (courtesy of the BBC).

If he runs against Clinton I believe it will be a landslide for Hilary (and I have no particular leaning towards her).

Maybe. Personally I am not sure America is ready to follow the first black president with the first female one though.

Did you read the article I mentioned? It covers that in many ways, sort of like a revolt against the standard well dressed well mannered politicians

as they arec tired of lack of progress in the US

He won't learn that. I don't mean that I think he'll win. Just that he wouldn't learn he wasn't universally loved. I do not believe he is any more capable of conceiving his own imperfection than I am of directly imagining a 5-dimensional cube. It just ... his brain can't accept it.

Politics is a very short term game. All Trump needs is to make some promises and buy voters who will, in that 1 week period, vote for him.

He's really good at selling junk, he has projects all over the world that take investor money and make losses.

The important point is, he is able to sell the product, however junk it later turns out to be.

What you see in the primaries is the extremes of American politics. When it comes to the election Mr and Mrs Middle of the Road vote, people who have never been or would even consider going to a candidates meeting or support an extremist.

They will not vote for Trump in large numbers.

Bloomberg has been mulling entering as an independent in that scenario.

Bloomberg won't enter unless it's certain Sanders is going to get the Democratic nomination. If it's Trump vs Sanders vs Bloomberg Trump would win the Presidency.

That won't happen. In reality Sanders is a long way behind Clinton.

Sanders is probably only slightly less electable than Clinton,

But , both Trump and Clinton both poll huge negatives across the populus,

Republicans Hate Hilary, and Democrats Hate Trump, the poor old independents in middle probably hate both, so its really a question of who do you hate the least ..

But Hey, if the British Labour Party can elect Corbyn as leader, I am convinced that its seriously possible that the US Republicans could select Trump...

Whether either of those two can then take the big step and be chosen to lead their countries is yet to be seen

Trump has a remote chance of the Presidency because the independent voters in the middle ground are not necessarily in the majority.

Corbyn has zero chance of being Prime Minister. The middle ground in the UK is a high proportion of the total vote.

Based on recent election results in NZ, I believe that is exactly what happens.....
