Both safes are taxpayer-provided.  The replacement was reportedly from existing stock (ie not new).  No explanation as to why Parliamentary Services removed the safe to an off-site location where it was "cracked open".  Presumably Parliamentary Services were just as able to get the codes from Gray (Bridges Chief of Staff) and make them work.  Still a media beat-up.

Mr Muller

We want to hear your great economic plan!

We had enough of your and your parties drama around a slip-up by the government(or their employees). Todd, sorry to hear that your support for your health minister was a total miss!

We want grown up boys stuff!

I doubt anybody is going to volunteer a detailed plan, so it'll just be aspirational goals and general policy direction.

We're in recession - and tax cuts won't fix the problems short or long term.  Short term they'll fail to create jobs or increase spending, long-term they'll just increase debt - which is going to have to be paid back.

If she has any sense (she does) she will bide her time a little longer. Now is not the moment to be leader of the National Party.

Muller added 9% to National in the first poll result last month. Wait for the next one due soon, or not.

22 May - 14 July. Is that the shortest time someone has been the leader of a political party in NZ?

Well, that was unexpected. I thought they had a pretty good chance under Muller especially after Muller brought Bridges back in. Seems like the internal National Party and National Party Caucus politics was a cause of significant issues.

Turns out he lacks the stones to do the job. Did he think it'd be easy or something?

I wonder if Paula Bennett is kicking herself for backing out early. She might have had a shot.

When she was tied to Simon Bridges she changed, now she would have no show of getting in. I believe that National needs to look at a young member to rebuild, refocus and appeal to a younger voter to stand a chance Nikki Kaye fits this narrative and maybe have Chris Bishop as deputy. I also believe 2020 is done and dusted for then.

Yes, I don’t think anybody comes close. The next nearest tenure would be Mike Moore who spent 59 days as Prime Minister before losing an election.

Maybe the ‘knives out’ brigade might understand what Bridges was coping with. If only the leader of the opposition here was given an armchair ride by the media that Joe Biden enjoys.

Its a bit like the deck chair action by Labour before the last election, only they had a winner waiting in the wings that was able to lift them to a third of the party vote.

I guess who ever gets the job will have to ensure they have an intersectional person on the shadow front bench, otherwise the media will jump on the diversity bandwagon again. Unless, of course, it’s Judith Collins, because she’s already made her position clear.

edit: I assume the MAGA hat can go back on the shelf now....
