If he runs against Clinton I believe it will be a landslide for Hilary (and I have no particular leaning towards her).

So they want someone on the right who will trash the life style of the poor and middle class  completely.  These days the Republican Party is all about the rich.  The poor and middle class need not apply.  Forget about your Obama care and what's left of labor unions and benefits, they'll be gone by lunch time..

Don't be misled by the company you keep. All the Americans I know are still delighted Obama was elected (and especially, re-elected). There are definitely regrets that he couldn't do more than he did, regrets that mean-spirited Republicans in Congress put their dislike of him ahead of their responsibility to the nation and undercut him at every opportunity, regrets that he couldn't elevate the red-neck ignoramuses a little with his refined intellect, and definitely regrets about his mistakes and the things he did not do well (like all presidents before him), but absolutely no regrets, none at all, that he has been President of the United States of America for the past seven years. The country could have done much worse (and I don't mean McCain, also a good and honourable man).

My own experience (to my dismay) reflects that of Geektastics. I work with a lot of Americans. All of the ones I have spent any time talking politics to, even in passing, were delighted he was elected (At the start), but pretty unhappy with how he has led (now). They see him as a promise breaker. They feel Obamacare did not contain enough compromise.

 

Strangely to me, a lot of people voted against him who voted for him in the first election, because with him in Office, the USA has been paralyzed. I kid you not when I say more than a few Americans ( know) would rather have a Republican in office they acknowledge will take the US in a direction they actively disagree with, because "it's better to be heading in ANY direction, than none".

 

These people are normal, intelligent, qualified, and otherwise sane people.

Most of the criticism as I see it falls into a few categories:

 

Racist diatribe, mainly hiding behind anonymity on the 'net, by a few bigoted loudmouths.

 

Criticism (most of it FUD) of what's called Obamacare, based on fundamental ideological opposition to socialised healthcare.

 

Unsatisfied expectations that following 9/11 and GFC, Obama (or anybody else) could offer a quick-fix to problems resulting from decades of misguided economic and foreign policy.

If true (I have no doubt it is) I find this incredibly sad and unfortunate. I have to say I share in the sense of disappointment with Obama, and I certainly blame him for some things, but I still would not choose anyone else currently in the picture over him, and I think the people I know feel the same. He could have done better, and I wish he had, but the paralysis of American politics is on both sides. I don't know if one is more to blame than the other, but nearly everyone in Congress seems more concerned with point-scoring than working together for the common good. In the past, both sides more or less played by the rules and respected the results. Yet for some reason, conservative Republicans never accepted the Obama presidency and from the day he was elected, went out of their way to look for reasons to question his legitimacy. The stupid 'birther' issue was just one example of that. They conducted the most mean-spirited, bitter, destructive, pointless campaign in the history of the country throughout his entire presidency to try to undercut him and bring him down. When the history of the decline and fall of the USA is written, this will be a defining moment.

While we're at it, B&H is being sued by the US govt for discrimination (ie racism) against Hispanics.

Better conclude it fast in case Trump takes over and normalizes it.
