The NY Times -
Mar-a-Lago Machine: Trump as a Modern-Day Party Boss

17 April 2022

PALM BEACH, Fla. - On any given night, Donald J. Trump will stroll onto the patio at Mar-a-Lago and say a few words from a translucent lectern, welcoming whatever favored candidate is paying him for the privilege of fund-raising there.

This is a special place,” Mr. Trump said on one such evening in February at his private club. “I used to say ‘ground zero’ but after the World Trade Center we don’t use that term anymore. This is the place where everybody wants to be.”

For 15 months, a parade of supplicants - senators, governors, congressional leaders and Republican strivers of all stripes - have made the trek to pledge their loyalty and pitch their candidacies. ...

Working from a large wooden desk reminiscent of the one he used in the Oval Office, Mr. Trump has transformed Mar-a-Lago’s old bridal suite into a shadow G.O.P. headquarters, amassing more than $120 million - a war chest more than double that of the Republican National Committee itself. ...

And while other past presidents have ceded the political stage, Mr. Trump has done the opposite, aggressively pursuing an agenda of vengeance against Republicans who have wronged him, endorsing more than 140 candidates nationwide and turning the 2022 primaries into a stress test of his continued sway. ...

ABC News: Judge slams Trump as 'charlatan' after jury finds Jan. 6 rioter guilty on all counts

A federal judge [..., an appointee of former President George W. Bush, ...] delivered a scathing rebuke of former President Donald Trump and expressed dismay over the state of American politics just moments after a jury found a defendant charged in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot guilty on all charges.

"You know, I think our democracy is in trouble," Judge Reggie Walton said at the conclusion of the third jury trial for a defendant charged in the Capitol assault. "Because unfortunately, we have charlatans like our former president, who doesn't in my view really care about democracy, but only about power. And as a result of that, it's tearing this country apart."

..."I have a concern that we have, unfortunately, American citizens who were so gullible that they were willing to accept what was being said without any proof that the allegations about the election had any merit whatsoever,"

..."People are just outraged at how they feel our system is not taking seriously what happened on that day because of their fear of the future of this country."

His remarks came after a jury delivered a guilty verdict for an Ohio man charged in the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol who sought to defend himself by claiming he was following former Trump's "orders."

Dustin Thompson, 38, is the third defendant charged in connection with the Capitol attack to take their case before a jury. The six charges against him included one felony count of obstruction of Congress. ... He sought to place responsibility for his actions on Trump and his speech on the Ellipse where he urged his followers to march on the Capitol.
...
Dozens of others among the nearly 800 people charged thus far in the Justice Department's Jan. 6 investigation have sought to make similar arguments

...Thompson is set to be sentenced in July.

Most defense lawyers would agree, pillaging someplace for sovereigns, and posting the evidence on social media might not be a good idea.

I agree with that judge, must say I'm glad most of them aren't on Trump's side. At least someone in America still follows the rules of the law, not the "rules" of Trump!

New York Times: Trump Allies Continue Legal Drive to Erase His Loss, Stoking Election Doubts

...“At the moment, there is no other way to say it: This is the clearest and most present danger to our democracy,” said J. Michael Luttig, a leading conservative lawyer and former appeals court judge... “Trump and his supporters in Congress and in the states are preparing now to lay the groundwork to overturn the election in 2024 were Trump, or his designee, to lose the vote for the presidency.”

Most of Mr. Trump’s aides would like him to stop talking about 2020 — or, if he must, to focus on changes to voting laws across the country rather than his own fate. But like he did in 2020, when many officials declined to help him upend the election results, Mr. Trump has found a group of outside allies willing to take up an outlandish argument they know he wants to see made.

The efforts have been led or loudly championed by
  • Mike Lindell, the chief executive of MyPillow;
  • Michael T. Flynn, Mr. Trump’s first national security adviser;
  • Stephen K. Bannon, the former White House chief strategist; and
  • Boris Epshteyn, an aide and associate of Mr. Trump’s.
Another key player has been Mr. Eastman, the right-wing lawyer who persuaded Mr. Trump shortly after the election that Vice President Mike Pence could reject certified electoral votes for Mr. Biden when he presided over the congressional count and declare Mr. Trump the victor instead
....

4 losers - 5 if you count Trump - who are holding massive grudges about an election they fairly and rightfully lost.

What happens if he runs again in 2024 and loses? "Oh it was fraud! Wah wah wah!!"

Jesus mate, get over yourself. You lost an election. All politicians do, eventually. Stop focusing on the past and start thinking ahead to 2024 if you're really serious about it.

I read elsewhere his rallies are getting smaller now - he used to be able to (apparently) pull in 25-30 thousand a pop. Now it's closer to 5-6.

Judges tend to get quite upset when the law, and the rule of law, is questioned, and in most cases this trumps any political, religious, or other allegiances (notable exceptions are subverted courts in totalitarian states, Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia spring to mind). Even in marginal/corrupt/autocratic countries the courts will still slap down politicians. The fact that the judiciary acts as a stabilising force mostly outside of politics is why protection of the judiciary as the third branch of government is enshrined in the US constitution.

Trump's endorsing like there's no tomorrow. Of course, the bulk of these candidates support his Big Lie that he won the 2020 election.

Background: Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was when a shooter killed 26 people. Twenty of the victims were children between six and seven years old, and six were adult staff members.

NBC News: Alex Jones’ Infowars files for bankruptcy following Sandy Hook lawsuits

The move by Infowars to file for bankruptcy is a legal gambit aimed at giving conspiracy peddler Alex Jones some breathing room after losing several defamation lawsuits for falsely claiming that the 2012 Sandy Hook school massacre was a hoax, experts said Monday.

Jones, who is seeking Chapter 11 protection in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, is trying to hang on to his disinformation empire after he was found liable for damages in a trio of lawsuits last year, they said.

Who is Alex Jones?

Jones is the founder of Infowars, a far-right website that traffics in conspiracy theories and fake news. He is also the host of a syndicated radio show bearing his name, which he has used to back former President Donald Trump and white nationalist groups.

..Jones told his listeners bogus stories about the Sandy Hook school shooting; made false claims that the U.S. government was behind the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks; and accused Hillary Clinton of operating a pedophile ring out of a Washington pizza joint. In 2017, his lawyer said Jones is really “a performance artist.”

Jones was previously subpoenaed by the House of Representatives committee probing the January 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters.

Trump has yet another tantrum and storms off like a child, mostly when asked about his (wrong) claims of election fraud during the 2020 election:

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/entertainment/2022/04/donald-trump-storms-out-of-piers-morgan-interview-over-questions-about-election-lies.html

Never ceases to amaze me how much of an easy ride he gets with Fox, Newsmax, One America News, etc - they hang on his every word like it's gospel, even though most of it is lies (protip Donald: you're not honest, and yes, Piers is right, you are an idiot).

To be fair they are talking about a 30 seconds promo clip - that could've been edited any way to create clickbait-level promotion for an upcoming show.

Still, just an edited ad for a new show. Wait for the actual footage, then get conclusions.

Even just in the Youtube preview there though Trump doesn't look overly happy. Mind you, that might be his normal face, I dunno.
