Inside the Republican Party’s Desperate Mission to Stop Donald Trump

New York Times - 27 Feb

extract:

"Despite all the forces arrayed against Mr. Trump [from within the Republican Party] the party has been gripped by a nearly incapacitating leadership vacuum and a paralytic sense of indecision and despair ...
Donors have dreaded the consequences of clashing with Mr. Trump directly.
Elected officials have balked at attacking him out of concern that they might unintentionally fuel his populist revolt ... "

Rubio started attacking yesterday. Getting personal suggesting Trump checking in a mirror to see if he wet his pants during the debate.

Thats the US system. Ive been there many times, often based in Louisiana. They have elections, and its all about this guy hit a student at High School. This guy stole candy when he was a teen. Its not about credibility, its about destroying it. Its laughable, but for the world super power its disturbing. You don't see anyone else acting like kids in elections.

There is the issue of war, social issues globally, disease, poverty, trade. But nup its about buying votes or delaminating the opposition, instead of putting forward your views to progress your nation. I'm too sensible for this world it seems!

Ugh... It'd be exactly like Lone Starr and Dark Helmet having their battle with the Schwartz.

Saw this in another news group last week.

"Actually it is plausible that Trump is deliberately running specifically to screw up the Republican nominating process and blow the election in favor of Hillary (assuming she gets past Sanders). It makes sense since they do have a long history. Trump contributed to both of Bill's Presidential election campaigns. He contributed to Hillary's Senate campaign. He contributed to her first Presidential campaign. He invited the Clintons to his daughter's wedding and they accepted (after all, who would turn down an invitation to a Trump wedding? you know it would be a blast with the best food and booze and venue and entertainment money can buy).

Trump and the Clintons have a long history together, and they both have experience with shady real estate deals. So it is well within the realm of possibility that Trump and Hillary are in cahoots to clear the road for her to take the Oval Office and make history doing it"

It's a nice theory but too complicated to pass the Occam's Razor test.

I wouldn't expect anyone would think that any contribution to an American presidential campaign would be motivated by philanthropy or altruism. There would always be a quid pro quo. I expect that (assuming that Trump's aim is to help Hillary win), when Hillary wins certain financial/legal problems that Trump has now might become less significant.

Donald Trump Is The World’s Greatest Troll

extract:

“A troll,” according to one definition, “is a person who sows discord … by starting arguments or upsetting people … with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.”

"The goal of the troll is to provoke a reaction by any means necessary. Trolls thrive in communities that are open and democratic (they wouldn’t be invited into a discussion otherwise) and which operate in presumed good faith (there need to be some standards of decorum to offend). Presidential nomination contests are highly susceptible to trolling, therefore. Access is fairly open: There’s no longer much of a filter between the campaigns, the media and the public. And it’s comically easy to provoke a reaction. How many times between now and next November will we hear that a candidate’s statement is “offensive,” whether or not it really is?

"Trolls operate on the principle that negative attention is better than none. In fact, the troll may feed off the negative attention, claiming it makes him a victim and proves that everyone is out to get him.

"Sound like any presidential candidates you know?"
