Heh, who would have thought Mallard would be "condescending". He would be one of the last politicians I could imagine selecting as speaker of the house.

I have dealt with Trevor Mallard many times and to put it politely I do not have a lot of time for him to except he did work well for his constituency. However I feel MPs missing meetings like this especially the one that is organising teh legislative calendar is just childish and unprofessional.

What do you think she is doing great at? I ask in genuine interest because a) I disagree entirely and completely and b) I meet a lot of people and very few think that.

Commentators say she has done well in her meetings with leaders of other countries - especially France. As for the rest give her some time maybe around Christmas this year would be a fair time to judge her overall performance.

I think 6 months is a reasonable period of time to get an initial read on it. She has had a fair number of opportunities to show leadership skills and in my view, has failed incredibly. Pick any one of the 10 massive stumbles the coalition have made, where have you seen her show leadership?

As for her success in overseas meetings, what concessions or "wins" did she actually bring home to NZ ? So far from what I can see she has managed to not say anything incredibly dumb to someone internationally (unless of course you count her clueless bumble about Trump at the start).

I can tell you what happened when she went to Australia. *Nothing*. She was politely (ish) told to mind her own business on refugees (fair call) and when she asked for our citizens to be treated better was told not a chance. She made some threatening noises about removing Australian courtesies here, but of course, she knows she can't do that as we have a lot more to lose than they do, so she didn't do that.

These are really great eating - dried. I went to a restaurant where they served them once in 5 minutes, medium rare as ordered - and apart from the disturbance from a silly old goat (with a personal hygiene problem) sitting in the corner ranting about politics - it was a terrific experience.
