CNN does a fact check of their town hall meeting with Trump:

https://edition.cnn.com/2023/05/10/politics/fact-check-donald-trump-town-hall/index.html

(would have been good if they had done this in real-time!)

Rikkitic: Nothing unusual about male witches.

Excellent article, well worth the long read.

My remarks were meant to be humorous, of course, but on a more serious note, I've long wondered about Trump's Svengali-ish ability to manipulate large chunks of the American population, as well as millions of other individuals around the world.

Trump was apparently fascinated by Adolf Hitler, keeping by his bed a copy of Hitler's speeches, according to his ex-wife Ivana (who, after an acrimonious divorce from Trump, died after falling down the stairs of her townhouse).

In turn, Hitler and his Nazi gang were themselves fascinated by the power of black magic and satanism.

IMHO, Trump picked up on all of this, and while he lacks the intelligence and patience to be a modern day Alistair Crowley, he has enough native cunning and willpower to have become a master demagogue. His influence will maintain until he is either silenced by imprisonment in a solitary, soundproof cell (unlikely, but we can hope) or deceased. The physical reality of his passing is inevitable but his influence will remain for many years to come.

Trump loves punishing others, like "lock her up" for Hillary using a private email server

Of course retribution only apply to everyone else.

From the town hall:

"We're going to be asking everyone who sells drugs, gets caught selling drugs, to receive the death penalty for their heinous acts, because it's the only way."

And, of course, there's journalists have to explain why that's a bad idea, without using words stupid, ignorant, pig-headed, ...

That was mainly Himmler and a few of his underlings, and it wasn't black magic but a complex mishmash of paganism, old Norse religious ideas, and 19th-century occult nonsense. The result was a grandiose but fizzled-out muddle that people still can't figure out today.

A whole rundown here: https://edition.cnn.com/politics/live-news/trump-cnn-town-hall/index.html

This part stuck out to me the most:

Some New Hampshire voters say Trump focused too much on 2020 election and should instead look forward

Undeclared and Republican voters from New Hampshire, who were in the audience for the CNN town hall with Donald Trump, said that the former president should have focused more on the future instead of the 2020 election.

CNN asked voters about their thoughts on Trump's overall performance as well. Out of eight audience members participating in the post-town hall discussion, only one said that they would vote for Trump in 2024. The rest said they remain undecided.

So, while he may have gotten heaps of cheers and whooping from the crowd, that doesn't always necessarily translate into votes.

This scares the hell out of me

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/world/2023/05/donald-trump-says-he-s-inclined-to-pardon-many-involved-in-beautiful-january-6-attack.html

Trump is effectively saying "Commit crimes to get me elected and I will pardon you"

He is instigating the US version of "Night of the long knives"

We were planning to go as a family to the USA next year (9 of us), but I am back to looking at the UK/Japan as alternatives because they will be safer.

If Trump wins, the chances of a civil war will be high.

Reuters - Trump jokes about sexual abuse verdict, repeats election falsehoods

May 10 (Reuters) - An unrepentant Donald Trump held firm to past grievances at the first televised town hall of the 2024 U.S. presidential election on Wednesday, stressing from the moment he took the stage that he has little intention of mounting a more disciplined campaign for his third White House bid.

In a contentious 70-minute broadcast, Trump drew laughter from a New Hampshire audience when he mocked writer E. Jean Carroll's account of his having sexually abused her, repeated falsehoods about his 2020 election loss, said he would pardon many of his supporters convicted of taking part in a Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, and called the CNN moderator Kaitlan Collins a "nasty person." ...

Stu Rothenberg, a non-partisan political analyst, said Trump's performance was a likely prelude to his 2024 campaign.

"It was classic Trump - it was Donald Trump from 2015 right up until now: the Big Lie, the outrageous style, demeaning individuals, mocking them. He hasn't changed, nor will he. It was a glimpse into the next year and a half."

The Guardian - Toe-curlingly bad television: Trump’s torturous town hall backfires on CNN   <<<  READ THIS ARTICLE !

The nausea came gradually, then suddenly, and with disconcerting familiarity. We had been flung back in time to the political hellscape of 2016. Only the second time around, it was somehow worse.

Donald Trump, the former US president appearing on CNN for the first time since that fateful election year, lied and lied and lied.

He was a leviathan of lying, a juggernaut of junk, an ocean liner of mendacity that left little boats of truth spinning and overturning in its wake. ...

To his base he's an absolute god (somehow). However, remember the audience was made up of Republicans or Republican-leaning independents. I have a feeling if the audience had been made up of the general electorate, the responses would have been quite different.

Because Trump's never had to face the consequences for his actions, or even pay his own bills, he never learns.

There is a possibility that Trump's appeal of this verdict could results for even more money being awarded to the sexual abuse victim.

New York Times: After Defamation Finding, Trump Again Says Carroll Lied.

Hours after a Manhattan jury on Tuesday found that former President Donald J. Trump had sexually abused and defamed the writer E. Jean Carroll, Mr. Trump went on social media to call her a liar.

It was the kind of attack that had led Ms. Carroll to sue him twice for defamation, including this week’s case, in which she won $5 million in damages.

His unrelenting commentary on Ms. Carroll, her lawsuit and even the judge in the civil trial, Lewis A. Kaplan, raises questions about what repercussions Mr. Trump could face in any motions he makes before Judge Kaplan or in a promised appeal, or whether he could face a new defamation lawsuit.

Casting stones in glass mansions.

Time: How Hunter Biden’s scandals compare to those of Trump's family members

Rep. James Comer, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, held a press conference on Wednesday to detail the latest updates in his investigation of Hunter Biden’s business dealings. The evidence so far does not directly implicate President Biden, but does suggest his son may have profited off of his famous name.

Records of Hunter Biden’s activities also echo the foreign business dealings of the family members of another President. While in office, former President Trump remained connected to the Trump Organization, even as he passed control of the company to his two sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. Though Trump’s team said the business would not enter any new overseas deals during his term, his family members continued to engage in business abroad. Meanwhile, Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, and her husband, Jared Kushner, continued to pursue financial interests in foreign countries.
