I just watched a clip of Anderson Cooper interviewing a women and her 3 (I think) children in a bomb shelter. Well it isnt, its a basement, that can manage "tiny bombs" as she said. Heart breaking. Food and water for 2 days, people are kind. Husband is elsewhere fighting the fight. And in the meantime Putin is bombing residential areas.

Russia is screwed, or Putin is screwed. Choose one

Problem is the west has been kicking can down the road for a long time, and this change takes a very long time.
There were apparently oligarchs financing the BREXIT campaign.

I get that. Two Oligarchs want the war stopped. Typical? Unsure. I feel its a sea change. This isnt a conflict that wont be in the news once Kiev and Ukraine fall. Its gone too far for a 2022 world. It will ultimately be about Russia or Putin. If Putin falls, Russia and everyone else can recover. If he hangs around, both him and Russia will fall.

BBC news just reported a Russian millitary convoy is heading to Kyiv. The convoy is over 40 miles (65km) long.

2. The war is already lost. Putin may win Kiev and Ukraine, but he has already lost. The global revolt will take Russia down, and Russia may take Putin down to allow a recovery for the country.

Bill Browder is probably one of the world authorities on dealing with Russia. If you haven't already, read "Red Notice", his book on corruption and politics in Russia, many libraries will have it.

Great opinion piece in the Guardian on "why Putin has already lost the war". As an opinion piece it reads a bit like a hold-the-line speech, but it makes a lot of good points about why it's a lose/lose situation for him.

But do we really want a world war caused by this. There are no real winners when that happens. ONe problem is that very few are still alive from WWII to remember what happened and how it was never going to be repeated. My grand parents all fought in it, and the nuclear threat is the big thing this time, especially when you have someone crazy in power. Thankfully the US got a new president.

How can a war with Russia be avoided? They are now demanding nuclear missiles in Europe to be removed, that their presence is unacceptable to Russia.

That demand is not going to be met. They are creating the risk to themselves and others in the name of reducing risk?

At the same time Russia says a nuclear war must never happen, that there are no winners, yet they are the first to threaten to use them/ intimidate with them reading between lines of their statements.

Advance on Kyiv stalled Believe fuel and food shortages.

“Russian troops appear to be risk-averse, the official said, and there are signs that some Russian forces have surrendered and that morale is weak among the troops”

If assessment is right then a lot of Russian troops are not happy about what they are doing.

Goes on to say, doesn’t expect retreat and they’ll keep advancing.

Currently, there is a war between Russia and Ukraine. There is also an economic war, world vs Russia. Assuming Russia wins the war in Ukraine the economic war will continue, and that may or should bring down Putin. Russians and the Russian government members at some point will need to decide when enough is enough
