If you read his second tweet, he makes it plain that it shouldn't be the first priority of the GOP to shut it down. Not that he didn't want it shut down.

Yes I agree, it's obviously an issue that he still wants to deal with, although perhaps it could just be more of his "shoot from the hip" & "tell them what they want to hear" style?

What would be interesting is to see a full picture of what issues the GOP has with the ethics committee. There have been some references to "due process" and specifically the ability for to hear anonymous, but there must be more to it than just those two specific issues.

And without warning the Republicans killed the Office of Congressional Ethics

And they've now backtracked on this, after disapproval from Trump.

The cynic in me thinks this was an orchestrated pan by all involved, to make his "Drain the Swamp" rhetoric seem more real.

They backtracked because their phones were jammed with constituents going off their heads.

It's getting more and more bizarre as the days go on.

The louder Trump squeals - the more it seems that he's got plenty to hide.

First thing I do when I get up in the morning (while on holidays) is see what he's tweeted from his android, and then see if the iphone-using staff member is trying to fix the fallout.

It's good for a laugh, and I need one, considering it's only 15 days until he's actual president :/

So, there's a reason why Republicans asked for lists of federal employees who worked at the US Energy Dept (as reported here): "House Republicans revive obscure rule that allows then to slash pay of individual federal workers to $1".

I can only guess vindictive and anti-science behaviour is just around the corner. Two weeks to go.

Whilst I am not particularly pleased with the election results, I don't share your sense of negativity. Trump has a lot less control than the republican congress has. He is a puppet who makes a lot of noise and seems like he is all in it for himself. In 1 week the democrats are gonna stop throwing pebbles and start throwing rocks. Trump will be inaugurated though.

He will make a mess of the economy and this time China and Germany are gonna feel the pinch. This will cause a correction in our sock and housing markets. Russia will rattle sabers about a nuclear war with the USA but it's not really what they want. The baltics wont get attacked unless Oil doesn't climb. If it goes up above USD 90 the Russia will shut off their rhetoric if it drops there will be instability and possibly Russia will collapse. California will try to leave the USA with a few other states but I don't think anything will happen. Europe is in trouble. We will see xmas this year from what I can see.

Trump more or less threatened to veto the amendment and bill affecting the congress ethics office. It's hard to reconcile that with the strange idea that Trump is a republican puppet and will do what the Republican Party tell him to.

It's not just about Trump.

It's also about the people he has appointed to his cabinet. They can wreak havoc without ever needing to resort to legislation eg Rick Perry at Energy or the guy who wanted to close down the EPA who is now running it.

With the release of the intelligence reports today by all 4 of the Intel Chiefs on the election interference by Russia, surely the election has to be rerun?

Although it would be almost impossible to work out the actual impact of what Russia has done (massive hacking, false news etc) on the election result it is very clear that interference did occur. Trump is still being coy about the reports clearly because he does not want to admit that a foreign government assisted him in gaining power.

If America holds democracy to such high standards then it cannot accept the results of last years election!!

this is why i hate Trump the person so much, if he had lost the election and this came out he wouldnt have shut up and he would be calling for new elections everyday, but he won so people are just sore losers and just ignore the mounting evidence.  God I think USA deserves everything coming to it for the next 4 years for voting for such a tool.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Life is going to be hard for everyone but I sure think the people who voted him in will suffer more than anyone else.

22.5% of eligible voters voted for Trump, apparently, so don't blame most Americans for voting for him. Although I think the 48% that didn't vote should be at least as ashamed as the 22.5% that voted for him.

The report clearly states that there is no indication that voting machines or vote totals were interfered with. On that basis the election was legitimate.
