In 1607, when England sent its Pilgrims, they're not sending their best. They're sent Pilgrims that have lots of problems, and they brought those problems with them. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some Pilgrims, I assume, are good people.

Um, what? Is this a Trump quote? The fractured grammar and tense errors "when England sent" (past tense) "they're not sending their best" (present tense) etc, etc, sound very much like Trump's mumble-stumbles, but I have no idea what's actually going on.

I should have made it more obvious
Trump, Time Magazine 2015

"When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. […] They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people"

So, practically speaking, there is no security that Trump can provide.

Presumably Chubb got at least some sort of unencumbered security for their smaller bond - but also the CEO is beholden to Trump so he may well have taken a much higher risk than he really should have.

Some more analysis around this: https://newrepublic.com/article/179879/trump-legal-debts-chubb-payment

Chubb is a very big outfit, but still a public company. I'm surprised its shareholders are complacent about what seems a very risky undertaking

Not to worry. I think most of us got it. I thought it was clever.

Trump has previously claimed to have cash. Either he doesn't or he's hiding it. Everyone knows his properties are worth less than he claims or he holds less ownership than claimed and are not silly enough to provide bond on them.

My interpretation is Trump is playing chicken with the NY courts and betting any action will benefit him politically and betting as president he will be able to intimidate the Republican house and senate to make good any loss one way or another. Trump's time in government was cash lucrative for him mainly as a result of foreign delegates currying favor by staying in his Washington hotel.

The NY Times - Trump says Jews who support Democrats ‘hate Israel’ and ‘their religion.’

18 March 2024

Former President Donald J. Trump accused Jews who vote for Democrats of hating their religion and Israel, reviving and escalating a claim he made as president that Jewish Democrats were disloyal.

A few hours later, facing mounting criticism from Jewish groups, Mr. Trump’s campaign repeated his incendiary charge, declaring that “Trump is right,” and that the Democratic Party “has turned into a full-blown anti-Israel, antisemitic, pro-terrorist cabal.”

Using the same  logic, MAGA "Christian nationalists" are not really Christian.   😕

Taylor Swift for President...oh, wait. She's already making more money and is more popular than any President in history.

The NY Times -  Trump Asks Supreme Court for Absolute Immunity on Election Charges

19 March 2024

Former President Donald J. Trump urged the Supreme Court on Tuesday to rule that he is absolutely immune from criminal charges stemming from his attempts to subvert the 2020 election.

The president cannot function, and the presidency itself cannot retain its vital independence,” the brief said, “if the president faces criminal prosecution for official acts once he leaves office.

The brief, Mr. Trump’s main submission to the justices before the case is argued on April 25, continued to press an expansive understanding of presidential immunity ...

Legal experts said Mr. Trump was unlikely to prevail but added that how and when the court rejects his arguments will effectively determine whether and when Mr. Trump’s trial, which had been scheduled to start March 4, will proceed.

Delay, delay, delay ...  😕

As I said, your legal system is falling at your feet. Trump simply creates "facts" with the Caterpillar Doozer. His success will prove him right, not the judiciary.

Not this time, bud.
