The New York Times: How Has Trump Changed the G.O.P.? His Criminal-Trial Guest List Tells the Tale.

The former president’s trial has become a staging ground for aspiring allies to prove their fealty, the latest litmus test in a party increasingly defined by loyalty to Donald Trump.

The Republican Party has changed a lot since Donald J. Trump last spent this much time at Trump Tower.

Stuck in New York City four days a week during his criminal trial, Mr. Trump is now back in the same penthouse suite where he weathered so many scandals during his 2016 presidential run.

Back then, Mr. Trump was the Republican nominee, but still very much a party outsider. After the “Access Hollywood” video broke in October 2016 and he was heard bragging about grabbing women’s genitals, he spent the weekend in Trump Tower watching defections. Second-guessing of his candidacy came from across the G.O.P. spectrum, including a canceled event and a public rebuke from the man he had chosen to be his vice president.

What a difference seven and a half years makes.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, monologue
...
Cohen's testimony seems to prove that Trump was directly involved in paying off Stormy Daniels. For instance yesterday Cohen told the court that after first resisting Trump eventually ordered him to pay Daniels $130,000 telling him "Just do it." In response Nike has changed their slogan to "Yay! Sneakers!"

Today prosecutors had Cohen bring us back to 2018 when the stormy story broke and Trump was desperately trying to keep him from damaging his presidency. That year the feds began to look into Cohen's illegal work for Donald Trump culminating in an FBI raid on his home and office. Cohen testified that he received a phone call from Trump after the raid and Trump told him

"Don't worry. I'm the president of the United States. There's nothing here. Everything's going to be okay. Stay tough. You're going to be okay."

That really smells like some Mafia talk.
...
Cohen also testified about a 2018 phone call with another key player in the whole hush money scheme, "The National Inquirer" publisher David pecker. "The Inquirer" was getting heat at the time from the feds for illegal campaign contributions. Cohen testified that Trump told him to reassure Pecker that

"the matter was going to be taken care of and the person of course who was going to be able to do it was then attorney general Jeff session."
...
Cohen's testimony was incredibly damning.

Trump responded with the legal defense known as snoring, because yesterday Trump took in Cohen's testimony with his eyes shut nearly reactionless moving only occasionally to whisper or pass a note to his attorney. I'm being told we have one of the notes "Shh! I'm trying to sleep this morning!"

Trump was defiant heading into court making this bold claim signing an "non-disclosure agreement", NDA, is not a crime. It's totally legal. In fact signing an NDA proves I'm innocent because it stands for "not did anything"

We also learned a fun new detail about Trump's response to the Access Hollywood tape [about Trump grabbing genitals] because Cohen testified that it was wife Melania's idea to characterize Trump's comments as mere locker room talk. Well, that makes sense because anytime Trump tries to get near Melania she lock 'er room.

The NY Times - We could be near the end, but Trump is a wild card.

today

Prosecutors indicated Tuesday that Mr. Cohen would be their last witness, and the defense said that it hoped to be done with cross-examination Thursday, the week’s only remaining day of court.

After that, the defense can present its case, though it is not clear how long that might take.

On Tuesday, Mr. Trump’s lawyers told the judge, Juan M. Merchan, that they could begin Monday, and that [Trump] might testify.

No determination yet?” Justice Merchan asked.

No,” Mr. Blanche said.

Can the Don the Con resist jumping into his quicksand of lies?  I hope not.   😉

So Trump has a big choice coming up this 17th - his 18 yr old son Barron graduation ceremony or a fund raising event which is 3 hrs away❓

If he attends is sons graduation then he is within the Judges bench decision. But what if he attends the fund raiser instead.

All indications are he is dumping his sons graduation for the fundraiser.

Does that mean he is in breach of the Judges bench decision❓ and then what can the Judge do - fine, imprison❓

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

As long as these events did not conflict with the trial schedule, it would not be a breach of the Judge's decision.

However, it's important to note that any changes to this schedule would need to be approved by the court to ensure it doesn't interfere with the ongoing trial proceedings

It will just be another data point to present to the jury.....probably during summing up...

Dishonest, refused to testify even though he said he would

Went to a fund raiser instead of his sons graduation like he whined publicly about.

etc

Trump may face punishment after surrogates ATTACK witnesses at trial
...
"The gag order expressly says Donald Trump shall make no statement about a witness or a juror or others and he shall direct no one to make a statement. So the devil's in the details. Did he direct? That would be the burden of proof for the prosecutors to satisfy if they wanted to ask judge Maran to once again hold Donald Trump in criminal contempt of court for violating the gag order.

They would have to prove they'd have to have evidence that showed Donald Trump directed his surrogates to make those statements. Based on who the surrogates were that I saw streaming to the camera, a real motley crew of congressional Republicans, I think it very unlikely that if any of them were asked even under oath "did Donald Trump direct you to attack the witnesses?" Do you really think they would say "yes," even if he did so?

It certainly violates the spirit of the gag order but I don't think Donald Trump will catch an 11th criminal contempt count these stone cold Republican clowns stepping to the mic and and saying all the nonsense they were saying

What a difference half a century makes. It was 50 years ago, 1974, when the Republican Congressional leadership including Senator Barry Goldwater Senator and the Senate Republican leader Hugh Scott and the House GOP leader Republic John Jacob Rhodes marched to the White House and told Richard Nixon basically you're done: resign or you will be impeached by your own party. The very next day Richard Nixon resigned. What a difference 50 years makes .

What we saw today be written in the history books: the corruption of the Republican party was complete. MAGA Mike Johnson and the others marched to a courtroom in Manhattan stood outside that courtroom and tried to kill the rule of law by propping up a criminal former president of the United States.

Should Trump be worried after the primaries earlier this week? Nikki Haley actually did okay-ish, for someone not even in the race!

A result like this makes me think that if Trump loses again this time, this could be his last election ever - the mere fact that Haley got so many votes indicates that maybe Republican voters are starting to get just a little sick of him and the non-stop drama that goes with him?
