Houston Chronicle: Why Trump allegedly asked Big Oil for $1 billion when he’s offered them everything
...
Another $6.4 million has gone through a joint fundraising committee called Trump 47, according to an analysis by the strategic communications group Climate Power. Of the 30 oil and gas industry executives, investors and allies who donated, none donated less than $100,000.

Trump 47 sends a portion of the money to Trump’s legal defense fund, the Save America PAC. It has paid for 70 different lawyers, spending $8.5 million over the first three months of 2024. Last year, Save America spent $47 million on Trump’s legal fees.

Texas billionaire Kelcy Warren, CEO of pipeline operator Energy Transfer Partners, maxed out his contribution at $814,600 to Trump 47. Meanwhile, Continental Resources CEO Harold Hamm not only donated to Trump 47 but helped the former president cover a $175 million bond to appeal a civil fraud suit he lost.

Warren and Hamm are also hosting another fundraiser for Trump to meet oil executives in Dallas next week.

So far, the totals are nowhere near the amounts raised during the 2020 election cycle, when oil and gas groups gave Trump $14.91 million, compared to $1.76 million for Biden.

While most fossil fuel executives hate Biden’s policies and some are enthusiastic Trump supporters, there is reason to question Trump’s request. Many of these companies are taking advantage of the Inflation Reduction Act’s many tax breaks and grants, allowing them to transition to clean energy.

Consulting firm Wood Mackenzie calculated a Trump victory would cut government energy investments by $1 trillion. U.S. companies would fall behind foreign competitors in developing new technology, a high price for delaying inevitable emissions reductions by only five years.

Reuters: Donald Trump wants to control the Justice Department and FBI. His allies have a plan
...
Trump's allies argue that, as head of the executive branch, the president should have broad powers to command and oversee the Justice Department as he or she sees fit.

Most Democrats and even some Republicans reject that view. They say the Justice Department requires an unusual amount of independence because it's responsible for administering justice in a non-partisan fashion. At times, that mandate includes investigating a president's close political allies.

"There are always enforcement disputes ... That is standard politics," said Kristy Parker, a former federal prosecutor who is now at Protect Democracy, a non-profit legal advocacy organization.

"What is not standard politics is somebody basically coming in and saying we are going to jettison the idea that the Department of Justice should have a wall of separation between it and the personal political agenda of the president."
...
Many Trump allies making these proposals are affiliated with a consortium of conservative think tanks known as "Project 2025", which has been making detailed plans for a second Trump presidency. In a statement to Reuters
...
These allies are also combing through federal regulations for novel ways to bring stalwart conservatives into the Justice Department at the start of a potential Trump term

FineWine:

So Trump has a big choice coming up this 17th - his 18 yr old son Barron graduation ceremony or a fund raising event which is 3 hrs away❓

If he attends is sons graduation then he is within the Judges bench decision. But what if he attends the fund raiser instead.

All indications are he is dumping his sons graduation for the fundraiser.

Does that mean he is in breach of the Judges bench decision❓ and then what can the Judge do - fine, imprison❓

Donald and Melania Trump attend son Barron's graduation

So that answers that question

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Predictable decision. Trump knows it'll get him more brownie points.

Trump doesn't actually turn up for many of his fundraisers anyway. But, I think Melania won that round.

Maybe only half of the round:

Trump was not expected to spend the evening celebrating with his son and is scheduled to attend a Republican dinner in Minnesota – a state his campaign is targeting in November’s election.

I was more surprised none of his half-siblings turned up for his graduation - unless I missed seeing them in any of the pics? His parents and Grandad were there but none of the others?

Follow up about very recent accident with Trump's private 757 jet, reportedly worth
  • in 2011, claimed he paid $100 million when boasting about his wealth to media
  • in 2023, just $1,001 when reporting to Office of Government Ethics
  • then 3 months later at least $5 million to same Office
Business Insider: In April, Trump said his private-jet LLC was worth no more than $1,001. Then in July, he said it was worth up to $25 million. Why?

TAG Air is one of many Trump-owned corporations that, by Trump's own accounting, experienced a staggering jump in assessed value only weeks after their initial disclosure.

The most extreme example is TAG Air, Inc. The company is one of a number of Trump entities associated with the former president's Boeing 757-200. In an April filing with the Office of Government Ethics, Trump claimed that the TAG Air had a value of $1,001 or less.

Then, in a revised July filing, same year, Trump valued TAG Air at between $5 million and $25 million.

The Guardian: Trump floats idea of three-term presidency at NRA convention

Donald Trump flirted with the idea of being president for three terms – a clear violation of the US constitution – during a bombastic speech for the National Rifle Association in which he vowed to reverse gun safety measures green-lighted during the Biden administration.

“You know, FDR 16 years – almost 16 years – he was four terms. I don’t know, are we going to be considered three-term? Or two-term?” The ex-president and GOP presidential frontrunner said to the organization’s annual convention in Dallas, prompting some in the crowd to yell “three!” Politico reported.

Trump has floated a third term in past comments, even mentioning a prolonged presidency while campaigning in 2020. He has also tried distancing himself from this idea, telling Time magazine in April: “I wouldn’t be in favor of it at all. I intend to serve four years and do a great job.”

The 22nd amendment, which was enacted following Franklin Delano Rosevelt’s fourth term, limits the presidency to two terms.

The video of Trump praising the "late great" fictitious cannibal Hannibal Lecter is all real, not modified.

Moreover Anthony Hopkins, the actor who played Hannibal Lecter is still alive, best known in the movie "Silence of the Lambs" (not as Trump says "Silence of the Lamb")

Lastly Hannibal Lecter does not die in the series of novels or in the film and television adaptations; in fiction, he is still alive.

If Jabari Jones is involved I don't think it matters.

Can't wait to see the trailer and reviews. I'm guessing Trump won't be happy also. It was shown today.

Variety: Inside the Legal Battle to Recut Trump Movie ‘The Apprentice’: Why Billionaire Investor Dan Snyder Is Furious With Ex-President’s Portrayal (EXCLUSIVE)
...
On Monday night, all eyes in Cannes will be on the launch of “The Apprentice,” the high-profile drama that stars Sebastian Stan as a young Donald Trump. The filmmakers and stars haven’t done any press on the ground at Cannes ahead of the film’s world premiere, and few have seen it, with plot details shrouded in mystery.

But one person who has seen it is Dan Snyder, the billionaire former owner of the Washington Commanders who is an investor in “The Apprentice.” And he isn’t happy.
...
Sources say Snyder, a friend of Trump’s who donated $1.1. million to his inaugural committee and Trump Victory in 2016 and $100,000 to his 2020 presidential campaign, put money into the film via Kinematics because he was under the impression that it was a flattering portrayal of the 45th president. Snyder finally saw a cut of the film in February and was said to be furious.
