This water bottling issue is just another nail in the coffin. As is the double bunking. I struggle to see how there is any support for them given their disregard for the voters who out them in parliament.

You forget one thing....the Minister whether its NZ First, Greens or LAbour has to follow the law..and she did. She also clearly said their needs to be a law change to stop it.

You can look at this two ways.

Firstly, largely their election campaign was run on false, poorly thought out and impossible-to-implement promises. And I'd go so far as to say with the intention of deliberately misleading the public to gain their vote.

Or otherwise they never really cared about their promises in the first place, or they would have made these promises non-negotiable.

The law denies them the ability to block this one - but that's no excuse, if they cared they should have made a plan to change the law. What we are seeing is a government who made mountains of false promises in an effort to gain power at all costs, with little intention of implementing many of them, largely just to push their own unionist and socialist agenda.

@rjt123 Do you know they dont have a plan?

She said they intend to do it but they have other priorities atm. Give her some credit for actually abiding by the law. Law changes can take a long time.

Didn't take them long to change the law to reverse the tax cuts. Shows where their priorities lie.

They've said they "plan" to do a lot of things. The proof is in the doing.

I wonder if some of the Labour supporters here would accept that premise if Jonathon Coleman had done it? There would be all sorts of cronyism claims and corruption nonsense.

Labour this term reminds me of what Obama said during the election prior to him taking the POTUS role. "I will close Gitmo, it's unconstitutional and a terrible place". Bush kept saying something along the lines of "until you end up sitting in my chair, you'll not understand".

3 Months Post election, he holds a press conference to say that now he has all the facts, he can't actually close Gitmo because it would be a danger to the world.

It's easy to sit on the sidelines and gripe about how you can do better, but the reality is, running a country is neither easy or simple. Everything is a balance.

My primary issue was that National had a reasonable handle on what was happening in the country. Maybe from time to time their priorities were skewed, but if you look at what National promised vs what Labour will deliver, it's hard to think that we wouldn't have been better off under National because at least National wouldn't be learning on the job.

I accept there would have been a steep price for National to pay for NZF's support and I do accept that some things are reasonable for Labour to have compromised on to make the deal, but the price they paid seems to have been unbelievable!

I see Bridges speak from time to time. I don't get the hate for the guy. He speaks pretty clearly, his comments seem reasonably intelligent and at the very least equally so to our PM.

I think this shows maturity by National.

I remember saying to my wife a few years ago that there two people that speak politics on morning TV, she never saw it as she had long left for work but I was bed ridden at the time so watched but I digress, it was Jacinda Ardern and Simon Bridges, they spoke to each other politely and with respect and I like that, I said to my wife that some day these two would be political leaders and possible PMs. I was rubbished by a few folks saying they will never do it as they were too inexperienced but I could see the potential in both. I did that a lot at work when I would make a decision to employ or promote someone others believed did not have the experience or skills.

I see they are implementing a new tourist tax???...I guess this is exempt from the election promise of NO new taxes first term.

@Pumpedd I kinda recall both National and Labour mooted this idea last year, I could be wrong but it was certainly being talked about. It does make sense as the huge increase visitor numbers is having an impact on the infrastructure and services. It's not a residents tax so it could be seen as not a new tax on Kiwis as such, with a push. Labour were a tad premature in their no new tax statements, no party should promise that as the future will most certainly throw curve balls requiring new funding.

You have to get the terms right. It's a 'levy' not a tax.

But all the same it's a good idea actually, if it's just included in your ticket then it's a good way to increase revenue with little or no negative impact.
