(no disrespect intended to the late Pope, who I always thought was a good man!)

Not a Catholic myself but will also admit that if you must have a Pope, he swerved very strongly from "least worst" directly into "ok, he's not bad, considering all the history etc.".

This is a genuine White House website - yes, really ...   ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

The Washington Post - Scroll through Trump’s new covid website - and have your mind blown

22 April 2025

Scrolling through Trump’s latest foray into history-washing.

A new website launched last week, covid.gov, and even though an editor once told me that writers should never instruct readers to “drop everything and look at this,” because then readers might never return to their articles, I must now ask you to drop everything and go look at this ...

We [must] all understand that we have been hoodwinked by a massive government conspiracy, and only the 47th president - who had nothing to do with anything covid-related - can save us. ...

This was a normal government website until just a few days ago, and now, boom, everything that was once carefully vetted and fact-checked is gone. It’s a full-scale rewriting of history, using official government channels.

The Washington Post - The new Sun King

23 April 2025

Every U.S. president has adapted the Oval Office to suit his taste.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt placed an animal hide rug on the floor. John F. Kennedy, a World War II naval officer, hung seascapes on the walls. And Barack Obama featured indigenous ceramics on the shelves.

But Trump has gone golden, taking the office into baroque and rococo realms typical of 17th- and 18th-century French monarchs. An analysis in the Cut called the decoration “An Interior Designer’s Nightmare.”

But the sparkle conveys something more insidious about how Trump views himself.

Behold the new Sun King, a wannabe emperor who views his powers as absolute - who governs by executive order, and has been recorded giggling in his gilded chamber with Salvadoran autocrat Nayib Bukele [see above] as his administration defies a unanimous Supreme Court ruling that he facilitate the return of a Salvadoran immigrant who was wrongly deported.

God save us from the king.

A golden paperweight inscribed with Trump's name in the Oval Office.

Gold decorations on a fireplace mantel in the Oval Office.

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/sarah-huckabee-sanders-arkansas-lawmakers-urge-trump-reconsider/story?id=121105810

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders and the state's entire GOP congressional delegation are urging President Donald Trump to reconsider after the Federal Emergency Management denied the state's request for federal disaster relief following a series of deadly storms last month.

When -- by Donald Trump (parody of Rudyard Kipling "If")

When you flinch at the hint of a whispering breeze,
And bend like a reed to whatever may please,
When doubt is your anchor, and fear is your sail,
And truth is a tale that you quickly curtail...

Trump softens tariff tone amid empty shelves warning, market slump: Axios

President Trump got a scare from CEOs and markets on Monday. On Tuesday, he blunted some of his sharpest threats โ€” signaling a softer stance on China and retreating from fiery rhetoric targeting the Fed.

Why it matters: The president is resolute in his goal of reshaping the economy. But he's sensitive to the movement of the markets and the pleas of powerful corporate leaders and investors who fear the worst from his sweeping efforts.

Trump backs down, to Wallmart, Target, Home Depot, coward in chief ?
After-all while TechBros don't shop there where do the bulk of your MAGA voters ?

Probably the bulk of gun accessories are made you know where as well.

Planning starts for ThanksGiving Xmas shopping season products around now, and any delays.
Designs have to be finalised and updated, and whole supply chain with leadtimes.
Nothing can be done with future tariff uncertainty, between now and then.

Looks like Trump is killing this: In shipping to the U.S., de minimis some cheap imported goods could enter America without incurring duties or taxes and with minimal customs procedures.

The de minimis threshold for the U.S. was $800 USD, imported duty-free and without complex customs paperwork. This applied per shipment, per day, per recipient.

Confused? Just think Shein (fashion) "Temu" (tat), AliExpress (more tat).

Trumpโ€™s De Minimis Order Poised to Upend E-Commerce: New York Times

President Trump on April 2 ordered the closure of a loophole that allows retailers to send clothes and other goods from China directly to American shoppers without paying tariffs.

But the order could raise prices for consumers and create delays as delivery companies and the United States Postal Service are forced to verify the value of many more packages than they do now, trade and logistics experts said.

The loophole, known as the de minimis exemption, currently applies to goods worth less than $800. Such goods are allowed to enter the United States tariff free. Mr. Trumpโ€™s order, which takes effect on May 2, removes the exemption from packages from China, the largest source of de minimis shipments, and Hong Kong. Items bought and shipped this way also require far less customs paperwork.

The Washington Post - The 5-Minute Fix - Trump officials may know where millions of immigrants live

today

As the Trump administration continues to face challenges to its deportation plans, DOGE got approval to access a highly sensitive dataset that contains the addresses of millions of immigrants.

It’s a huge win for Trump officials.

The Post has reported they’ve been mining everything from the Social Security Administration to Medicare to tax information to job and housing data to find out where undocumented immigrants are living and working ...

This latest dataset, from the Justice Department, also contains any case histories immigrants may have, which could provide Trump officials with reasons to cite when deporting migrants.

Trump plans to meet with Atlantic editor who was added to secret Signal chat: BBC

President Donald Trump will meet with The Atlantic magazine editor-in-chief who was inadvertently added to a Signal group chat with administration officials discussing air strikes against the Houthi group in Yemen.

Trump said on social media Thursday that he would be meeting Jeffrey Goldberg, and two of Mr Goldberg's colleagues, Ashley Parker and Michael Scherer, later in the day.

"I am doing this interview out of curiosity, and as a competition with myself, just to see if it's possible for The Atlantic to be 'truthful,'' Trump wrote.

Trump claimed the journalists were "not exactly pro-Trump writers" and questioned whether they were "capable of writing a fair story on 'TRUMP'?"

Parody

Trump (to reporter, arms crossed): "Trump has been informed that people donโ€™t like how Trump talks about Trump in third person."

Reporter (eye twitching): "With respect, President, most find it annoying."

Trump: "Trump understands your frustration... and Trump will take it under Trump's advisement."
