I cannot see how the disabled would be better off under a non capitalist system. There is greater opportunity when there is a good flow of investment and capital to establish and support employment

There is nothing wrong with higher achievers providing income earning opportunities is there? Define rich.

Not everybody is given the opportunity to be a higher achiever. Not everyone wants to be just provided with an income earning opportunity. Some people want more. Its not easy to get there and become a high achiever. High achievers have more opportunities and thats whats wrong with our system.

Rich! In New Zealand I would say thats anybody that earns more than $90k/pa.

I disagree. I was expelled from school at 15. Maybe the word(s) we need to focus on is high determination.

Look, don't get me wrong. I know it's tough. But many small to medium employers (especially outside of the IT industry) really do appreciate a worker that wants to prove their worth by demonstrating a good, positive and focused attitude.

That is poor according to the Government....as you can access a cheap Kiwibuild house as long as you earn under $180k/annum.

I would say rich begins at over $500,000 per annum.

Until then you're well paid.

Pretty sure it's been that way through most of human history, Warren... You're not giving us information we didn't know.

Marcus Licinius Crassus was worth more in today's money than Bill Gates - and he died in 53BC!

He lost his head - those were the days. Nowadays the order "c'mon troops" probably gets issued by the tapping of fingers from a safe distance, failure can be spun by the PR department.

He was killed when he tried to invade Parthia and ignored several sensible bits of advice - so through his own stubbornness rather than anything much to do with his wealth.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

There seems to be an elite class and a marginalised group under all economical/government systems.  All that differs is who is up and who is down.

Rabid capitalism and rabid socialism have both been proven absolutely disastrous - extreme capitalism neglects, extreme socialism brutally suppresses.

The least-bad system seems to be a democracy that makes money with capitalism and shares some of it around (a bit) with socialism.

Figures quoted on Newshub this morning estimated that residential rents are up 7% compared to the same time last year.

National median rent is now $480 per week.

If only sentiment alone could drive real change ...

Twyford said there would be no-one sleeping in cars by winter.  While I haven't seen anyone sleeping in cars, I still see plenty of people sleeping rough in Wellington.

It's amazing to me the number of people including a recent Labour supporter who joined this thread who seem to believe that just because Labour said something, it must be true.

I heard that woman on the breeze today talking about how amazing JA was for holding down the PM job AND having a baby! I was aghast to think this normally intelligent person hadn't cottoned on to the fact she had done it yet! Not to mention that JA is in the exceptionally fortunate position to have someone who can stay home with the baby (as in they don't need the second income) or that even if that wasn't true, they were in the financial position to have a full time carer or multiple if required.

I am not dissing JA here, I am simply pointing out that her ability to do these two roles is more a function of her income and status, than it is of her being a super human being.

It seems there is a contingent of cheerleaders in the media who are hell-bent on delivering the same fawning coverage of Jacinda that they couldn't stand when it was John Key.

Who, specifically?
