6FIEND:

I'm sorry for banging on about it  (especially seeing as you're acknowledging the inaccuracy) but it's quite an important distinction.

Curran did not lose her job as a Minister as a result of the controversies about secret meetings.   She retained her position as a Minister, her Ministerial salary and all the perks associated with it.  All that she lost was two of her portfolios, and her position in the inner-cabinet.

It was a classic, "on-paper", notional disciplinary action.  Curran was left with significantly more than just her job as an MP.

Dont be sorry its a genuine point. Not more than her job as an MP (as I see it) but I do agree. Its not harsh. In her benefit, she has been there for 10 years. Its not that she stole, or took benefits as Turia did, so you can say its poor skill/judgement/ability. OTOH, any party does not need a "capable" (as an MP) but no good otherwise. If I was a CEO, I would not be saying, your not great, you are pretty average at best, I'll keep you on. I would remove her fully, but as I think you mentioned, its a seat situation, so forced to keep her on. not ideal, but Labour etc staying in power is worth more than one MP. She is probably capable just as a MP I have no idea, but as with politics, its not about whats good for the country its whats good for the votes. Thats the failing of our system.

Odd... Jacinda is now claiming that she was asked whether she asked for Curran’s resignation in that interview this morning. That’s also a lie. When is she going to stop digging a hole for herself??

Read your link, can't see any issue. Lie, hole? What do you want? Lets fire her on the news and shame her? Ok, if thats what you feel is needed.

Tell me what is a lie and what is digging a hole. I feel that you are digging for something that does not exist. In its simplest form CC has been fired. Obviously that not "you are fired" Its likely not "you must resign" Its more like "you know what you need to do"

Lets keep this as a discussion, as others do, and keep the clickbait out of it. Otherwise post in the Stuff thread

Ahh, I see why you’re not seeing a problem... I was referring to the audio

Jacinda claims around the 8:20 “I was also asked if I had asked for her resignation, ahh, and I hadn’t”.

http://120.138.20.16/WeekOnDemand/ZB/auckland/2018.09.07-17.00.00-S.mp3

At no time did Lynch ask her that question. It’s either amateur incompetence , or deliberately deceiving.

To make matters worse, the PMs office have also been caught up in this, releasing an inaccurate transcription of the interview to try and spin things in Jacinda’s favour.

I don't accept that CC was naive or showed poor judgement.  Curran has been around politics for decades as a union hack, official and MP.  Her behaviour isn't forgetful or clumsy. There is a pattern of behaviour in which she wilfully conceals and then lies if asked questions.  It's deliberate and what looks like naive behaviour (meeting Hirschfeld at a cafe for deniable meeting)  is probably arrogant.

Between Curran's dishonesty, Wahitiri's alleged violence and Ardern's handling of Curran ...

I agree. NZ is better without her in Politics. She is past doing this stuff accidentally. This is her MO.

Our PM needed to show some leadership. It was a simple straight forward situation with a very straightforward and simple solution. I am worried about her handling of truly more complex issues, like the ones NZ is likely going to face in the coming few years.

Everyone except the PM could see what was required, even the person who did it!

Ever get the feeling there is a Leadership coup by stealth going on in the Coalition? It almost seem that Winston is still the PM and NZF is in control of policy and the Cabinet.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I'm surprised that people are surprised that it's this way. In my view it was Winstons plan all along. The Greens had as much power as NZF, they couldn't form Govenment without them, but they meekly gave away the crown jewels and are the silent partner.

NZ Green Party should have gone with National and they would have achieved so much more.

Going to disagree there.  The Greens never had as much power as NZF because they never positioned themselves as going any way other that with Labour.  Because of that, Labour could take their support for granted without having to make any significant concessions.

Do you not think they should? For me, it's another failure to lead. When you are the boss you front for the mistakes of the people who work for you.

I was more surprised to be honest, given their repeated changes of tack over the leaker story; e.g. first spending the money was Bridges' fault, then he didn't command the respect of his caucus, then when the inquiry was shelved, he shouldn't have asked for one in the first place given how mentally fragile the leaker claimed to be. In every way you can imagine it was his fault, with almost no scrutiny of JA's spending on the plane trip to Narau even though the sunk cost logic was identical.

I see all three coalition leaders attended an event over the weekend to announce motherhood and apple pie.

Winston kicked things off followed by his PA PM.

James didn't get to give speech at all, but he was allowed to answer a few questions.
