The problem is that even if the US backs off, a missile with nuclear warheads will still be heading their way.

The only option really is to disarm NK. There has been lots of time for talks, its proved fruitless and has just allowed NK to grow their nuclear program in the meantime.

That's actually not an option - if you mean disarm by force.

China has made it extremely clear that it will defend DPRK against any preemptive strike by the USA. Their concession is that if DPRK was to strike US (including Guam) then it would remain neutral (allow the US to retaliate).

If the US did launch a preemptive strike, there would almost certainly be a bloodbath - which could escalate to global disaster.

You could say that talk has proved "fruitless" - but actually, apart from isolated incidents - perhaps not. Despite no peace treaty, an armistice has held since the cessation of hostilities more than 1/2 a century ago.

I'd ignore Trump's cowboy bluster - as officials in his own administration seem to be doing.

Both sides are are playing the 60s-70s game of brinkmanship also known as bloody childishness. Both Kim and Trump are constantly poking the bear probably to overcome some deficiency. Millions do not deserve to loose their lives for the sake of these two spoiled brats.

The exercises were scheduled, they are always scheduled, and NK always says its the preparation for an attack. IMO they get away with everything, the West/SK/Japan lets them. So that makes it easier to taunt, and then the West/SK/Japan gets accused by being aggressive. They are just playing us, and they are winning

I agree with that. Overall, talks with NK are a waste of time, that been proven over and over. Sanctions dont work. Non Nuclear is off the table for NK. Allowing nuclear is off the table for the US, although China seems ok with it "may have to get used to a nuclear NK" The US will now have to stay there permanently, probably add more anti missile capability to Japan. And ultimately, do what no one in that region wants, a permanent US presence. Stalemate

Yes, keep out of all talks, step back. One strike by NK and its all on, no warning. The West should cease all trading with NK, and look down on any that do, aside from China, unless China end up "supporting" a growing NK.

So long as idiots propose bombing the crap out of them if they don't do what they're being told to do, that will continue.

(thankfully his top General is saying things differently) Flying B1's strategic bombers over the peninsular, sending Carrier Battle groups to the region, threatening to bring fire and fury to North Korea...... Both sides need to can the BS and go back to their sand pits.

So what should he be doing? Doing nothing about NK's threats is unfortunately not an option. The only thing the US is really doing is preparing themselves for the inevitable. I don't see any other options.

People on the "do nothing" side of war normally end up as the losers.

So you want to offer North Koreans free food and medicine? I dont see how this can work? Remember we are all enemies of NK, and every North Korean firmly believes that too. They have been so brainwashed by Kim and his propaganda, that they will rather die than accept food or medicine from the West.

An experienced politician/diplomat would be doing everything to deescalate the situation. But that does not appeal to the armchair generals of lounge heroes. Both side of a war are losers. Do you not see that Trumps threats to North Korea are the same as North Korea's? that is why i wrote "Both sides need to can the BS and go back to their sand pits."

We used to give them food and ouil when they agreed to cease armament and/or nuclear development. Thats has been long stopped as they abused that each and every time
