Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
gzt:MikeB4: How the hell is a baby in its bed a legitimate military target? Hamas has lost all imagined legitimacy when they chose to become war criminals.
It is not. Those and similar acts are insane and the work of madmen.
More than madmen, they're products of the worst environment.
It's a perfect storm — when their religious fervour gives an absolute belief in going to paradise explicitly if they kill Israeli citizens is combined with legitimate or perceived grievances about territory and human rights abuses.

Not for the faint-hearted. Images of death, violence and chaos.

My first reaction to this, before I had seen/heard what had fully transpired, was "you reap what you sow"...and then I found out what had really occurred. There's no excusing the murder of people irrespective of which side of the fence you sit on.
I think any residual sympathy that the Palestinians in Gaza may have had is evaporating quickly. I blame Hamas for that entirely.
The innocent people that are being murdered on both sides of this conflict don't deserve any of this. Unfortunately, the radicalisation of both sets of citizens will occur, due to the atrocities they will continue to witness. It's about time someone went in there, stopped the encroachment of Israel on Palestinian land and wiped out Palestinian terrorists at the same time.
It's easy for me to say, though. I can't even imagine how you'd start to resolve this conflict.

Unfortunately Netanyahu was the worst possible selection as leader of Israel. He is of the same ilk as Putin. There is no hope of peace with him in power and as his legal issues close in he has the potential to become Israels first dictator.
Both sides need enlightened leaders that genuinely care for their people and seek a lasting solution that serves both the Palestinian and Jewish peoples in Israel were they can coexist in peace. This will probably require casting off the current idea of statehood.

Part of me genuinely wonders if Israel knew it would happen but did nothing because it allows them to respond with legitimate overwhelming force. I'd like not to think this but I feel it's no less ridiculous than anything else that has happened in history and politicians aren't immune to doing shady AF stuff against their own people.
Hamas and enlightened leaders?
Hamas seem to be absolutists, even more than Elon.
They started their first big moves with bus bombings in Israel, to try to torpedo peace talks with Palestinian Authority, PLO.
Hamas was none to shy to kill fellow Palestinians to remove Fatah and Palestinian Authority from Gaza, and become sole authority.
Islamic Jihad is tolerated there, as its pretty similar lot and not challenging their authority.
So population also becomes hostage to Hamas, who have their own religious courts.

All options are degrees of bad when you face an opponent who only wants to kill more, and grotesquely like ISIS.
Crux of problem, there is no 'Nelson Mandella' in Hamas with power to negotiate peace agreement that will be kept.
Necessary compromise to evolve a relationship that can peacefully advance to them getting more of what they want not their thing.
Palestinian Authority, PLO are quite different, but Hamas, does not bow to them quite the opposite.
True one can imagine how it might have 'stopped the world' if Hamas had told festival goers and families to leave in peace and focused on military action.
When this is ended the Palestinian leadership needs to stop investing in death and start investing in prosperity for their people. That is why I say they need to find an enlightened leadership.
When this is ended Israel needs to find enlightened leadership and invest in prosperity for all citizens of the region.
When this is over both sides need to stop allowing actors from outside their borders to manipulate and influence their destiny.

gzt: It's worth noting here - no elections have occurred in the West Bank or Gaza enclaves for nearly 17 years. Abbas and Fatah in the occupied West Bank enclave was said long ago to have postponed to avoid Hamas winning. Hamas for thier part as far as I'm aware have never set a date for resuming elections in the Gaza enclave after their previous win. In part that will have been a lack of Fatah coordination. In my opinion they are both playing chicken with the democratic aspirations of the Palestinian people.
Often in these situations the enemy is within and I feel this is the case with both sides.

Sadly I think you're right.
And it suits the hardline narrative to have continued aggression and death on both sides, because that means they can justify their actions, their tough policies on the "enemy" and they can continue to hold onto absolute power within their respective countries.
