Apple don't pay GST - no GST registered business does. They collect it on behalf of the government from the consumer.

GST is a sales tax, it is paid by the consumer at point of sale.

 

Company tax is paid on its profits, and currently multinationals are using "tricks" to whisk their profits overseas and avoid taxation.

My understanding is that to impeach there has to be a majority vote in the Capital for this to proceed. This will require a good number of Republican Representatives to "cross the floor", this currently would be doubtful. However if enough Republicans believe that they will get savaged in the 2018 House elections then they may well push the issue but I doubt that would be this year.

 

 

Not firing anything at anyone in particular, but my feeling is that people who suggest (not talking about you MikeB4) ways to get Trump impeached is just being sore, and really clutching at straws. 

 

He was voted in by Americans, he is their leader, let him do what he needs to do for the American people. If he wants to dismantle the country it's his problem really. Why would a New Zealander halfway round the world want to figure out ways to impeach him?

 

So far I haven't seen anything that your/my boss at work isn't doing (openly or secretly), he's the boss, he does what he wants, let the shareholders deal with it if they want/can.

Comparison between POTUS and the boss of a company is a serious mistake, he's there to serve the people and honour his sworn oath to uphold the constitution - not enrich his shareholders.  That said, plenty of CEOs fall foul of shareholders and are either ousted or fall on their swords.  It's also fairly standard to see boards stand firm behind dud CEOs until it's untenable to do so any more - then the axe falls and usually takes more than one head.

 

Trump's now been thoroughly humiliated on several serious claims for which he's on record for saying.  He and some brave/stupid Republicans are trying to deflect by playing the Nixon defense - that the "real crime" is the leaking of information - that tactic didn't go well for Nixon. "Must find leaker!" is amongst Trump's tweets this morning, along with multiple diversionary accusations / rhetorical questions, attacks on the media.  

 

If at some stage he's put in the position of having to testify under oath - about anything that takes longer than a minute or two - how do you think that'll go?

 

As leader of the wealthiest country on earth, with by far the most powerful military on earth, who with only 5% of the world population consume about 25% of the world's resources, who have veto power at the UN, who've been involved in constant military conflict outside the USA for the past 70 years, I hope you're not saying that you find it odd that people outside the USA take an interest in what the POTUS is doing?

WASHINGTON (AP) — Cementing her role as a powerful White House influence, Ivanka Trump is working out of a West Wing office and will get access to classified information, though she is not technically serving as a government employee, according to an attorney for the first daughter.

 

Jamie Gorelick, an attorney and ethics adviser for Ivanka Trump, said Monday that the first daughter will not have an official title, but will get a West Wing office, government-issued communications devices and security clearance to access classified information. Gorelick said Ivanka Trump would follow the ethics rules that apply to government employees.

 

 

This is IMO creepy and bizarre - basically giving her this, but she's not an "employee" as she's not getting paid, so not subject to vetting required before being granted access to classified information, evading anti-nepotism laws, evading financial disclosure rules.

Like a Hollywood drama (or soap opera if it goes on for 4 - 8) years.

 

I still don't know if anyone capable of doing so wants to impeach him. (at the moment)

Yes - POTUS absolutely is a liar.

 

I think you'll find that mainstream media like the WP avoid using "liar" as it's emotionally charged and suggests malicious intent for the mistruth. It's also final - call someone a liar and that's the end of dialogue.  Plenty of smaller media organisations in the US are calling Trump a liar, but they've got nothing to lose, as they have no privileged access to the administration anyway.

Not in the US. Media reporting on public figures are practically immune from lawsuits unless the claimant shows that the media outlet intentionally set out to propagate an untruth. Any lawyer who isn't brain dead will be able to defend the notion that a media outlet honestly believed that Trump is lying. The point here is that, unlike Trump, most people just generally err on the side of restraint and civility.
