Points is, none of this is new, its decades old. But if its felt that its tuned to custard under "this" government, ok

Yes, it is decades in the making. Yes, it got far, far worse than it  was under the previous National governments. Both things can be true, but it doesn't absolve the government of their absurd Kiwibuild promises or mean they can't be held accountable for their part.

They're the ones contesting the election, not previous governments long since departed.

And that is playing out as per the polls, democracy in action

It is a problem, electorate does look for magical results, for free, social media only amplified.
Even on local level Mr Brown does not want Government involved in Auckland.
I suspect as Government funding for this or that public transport initiative comes with a share to be input by ratepayers who also benefit.
So it goes everyone wants miracles that incur no costs.
Free infrastructure, while aging infrastructure paid by a prior generation crumbles.

National too have made 'magical' claims.
Back to the silliness with claiming that we are going to fund expansion of Healthcare and Drug schedule by magical 'efficiencies'.
That funding of various new drugs is not going to reduce services elsewhere unless you increase the funding.
Increase in funding would mean tax and spend unless they take it from somewhere else.

I gather no one likes 'consultants', but they like the idea of downsizing Government departments.
Um, who do you think goes first, experience that often comes with age, and those with ability to work as...
Consultants. While the redundancy is nice, why would you sell back your knowledge at a discount after being dumped ?

In Europe places have been buying back privatized water as companies efficiency was driven by neglecting infrastructure and just serving most profitable.
Naturally, contracts made buying these back an expensive process, plus you then have to fix all that infrastructure.

Example and repeated across Europe.

On the good side No recession: Economic growth stronger than expected - NZ Herald

The economy grew 0.9 per cent in the second quarter, lifting the country out of recession and exceeding expectations.

In fact, based on revisions to earlier numbers, the economy may not have been in a technical recession at all.

GDP rose 3.2 per cent in the year ended June 2023.

Strong net migration buoyed the numbers but the better than expected performance from sectors like manufacturing meant growth remained marginally positive even on a per capita basis.

Economists had forecast New Zealand would rebound back into growth in the second quarter of the year.

Sounds a lot like Kiwi Rail.

Watched the minor leaders debate last night, funny. Peters needs to stick to fishing. I'll give Seymour something, he wont work with Peters, same for Hipkins, but Peters will work with anyone as will Luxon

Also watched some of the Main leaders debate that I had recorded

Hipkins. Weak.

Luxon. Also weak. Said a lot of slogans but bypassed any details or commitment. Just slogans and bagging. Clearly he has been coached, as he has stated. Annoying when one person is talking while the other mutters/interjects in the background, clearly scripted.

Not bothering to watch. The talking heads just aren't that interesting. I am old and have become cautious about what I waste my remaining time on. If the analyses have anything worthwhile, I can always go back and look at recordings of the good bits. Assuming, of course, that there are any.

Wayne Brown positions the future National-Act Government as Government
' For the Trucking Companies, by the Trucking Companies' :-) ?

'Five idiots': Wayne Brown slams councilors over Auckland Transport vote
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/local-government/132985316/five-idiots-wayne-brown-slams-councillors-over-auckland-transport-vote

Brown hinted at a changing time for transport after the October 14 general election.

“The government that is going out is controlled by the trade unions and the one that is coming in is going to be controlled by the trucking companies,” he said.

“Look at the amount of money that trucking companies have stuck into National, (that’s) why they are doing motorways instead of rail,” said the mayor.

HA HA, Mr Brown fails at something, yet again. No wonder he churns through media people so fast - he's a useless moron. He should stick to tennis.

Looks like "a changing time" above is a typo for "a challenging time"

ACT Party has pulled back on the scale of their alternative tax cuts as they signalled earlier:

Is anyone else disappointed in the debates so far. A lot of shouty shouty over each other with very little detail other than policy already announced.

I still think there is about $1B hole in National's Tax Cut plan, so that will most likely come from more severe cuts to the public service, some of it justified but most likely everything will grind to a halt especially in Health and Education with any significant extra funding.

But this is what the majority of the population want. Further growth in inequality, homelessness and crime driven mostly due to poverty to justify building private prisons.

I'd suggest it's most definitely not the majority wants, but with exception of your private prisons quip it's exactly what we've got from the past six years
