No surprise to me but you are talking complete nonsense. I never said there was no benefit to anyone and zero plus sides. However, a lot of Labours policies were announced before the election and I disagreed with them then, and disagree with them now. I don't need an "announcement" to confirm what was already promised unless you believe that campaign promises are worth nothing? The announcements confirmed what was already on the table largely, so your "no basis whatsoever" is just trolling.

Again, you have proven comprehension is a difficult one for you, and that you love to put words into other peoples mouths.

Most of the budget for welfare in NZ is taken up by working families, not by solo mothers or those on disability.

The only tangible difference to me is that under a Nat Govt, I would have gotten an additional $20/wk in the hand than I will under labour. Arguably, I don't "need" the tax cut, but it could have meant more debt repayment or possibly more consumerism on my part, but as we aren't struggling to put food on the table, I'm not overly passionate about it.

I see Arderns biggest challanges will be how she manages the makeup of the new Govt, keeping Peters close enough to be useful but not so close as to actually stiffle anything that she wants "her" Govt to achieve. So you consider $20 (*) a week to be something to discuss when you yourself admit you 'arguably' don't need it. I consider $20 a week scraps thrown from his master's table. The NZ economy is worth 300B / year and you want to mention $20 a week.

Come on , there are big issues at play here.

(*) You wouldn't have seen the $20 anyway, it was an election promise.

For many "middle incomers", it is a very relevant fact. Middle income is mostly ignored by both political parties, "too rich" to get most forms of welfare (working for families etc etc) but not rich enough to live comfortably (ofcourse, comfortably is relative to an individuals perception / interpretation), hence the $20 tax cuts "that had been passed into law" so wasn't an election promise, were one of the few tangible differences between a National lead Govt and a Labour lead Govt for the middle incomers.

Ofcourse there are bigger issues at play, but those that wait for a Government to lift them out of poverty will wait an eternity, its not a Governments responsibility, its their own, a basic fact that escapes many

Would you agree the government should push a ladder down into the poverty trap so those who want to climb it can do so?

Of course, the wealthy are welcome to climb down it if they choose, it is a free country .....

I did leave but thought the Hoskings piece was interesting. At least he is prepared to see what the government actually does before passing judgement. You, on the other hand, seem to have made up your mind and nothing is going to change it. Your good right, of course, but you are awfully quick to rush to judgement. All I have been saying is give them a fair go, but you seem unwilling to do that. Or am I misunderestimating your position again?

In any case, I don't want to engage with you anymore. It just doesn't go anywhere. My comment was in response to to Fred99, not to you.

Has Labour dramatically changed it's position since JA took over in terms of Policy? Nope, so I have no idea (as usual) what you are talking about. Stuff like Education Changes, Employment changes are all set in concrete, they don't need to be given a chance, they are horrible policies. Speaking to my neighbours who run low-cost labour manual labour firms, they cannot afford the $20 minimum wage that Labour proposes, he thinks redundancies in his business will be inevitable. There are *many* others.

I have had 12 weeks (9 Years) of Labours policies so I don't think "quick to judge" applies here at all.

On the plus side, I have just now seen that Andrew Little will NOT be minister for Small Business. Unbelievable to have put him there in the first place given his lifelong association with Unions. Sanity appears to have taken hold in that regard.

On another note, since I see Andrew Little is in charge of Pike River Re-Entry;

I wonder what happens if people die or get injured trying to go back into Pike River. I'd expect JA to step down in that instance. Risking living people to recover remains of dead people is insane. I can understand the emotion, but if there is ANY risk, and if there no dispute amongst the sane that there is, then it shouldn't be considered. Not to mention the money. I wonder how many people who whined about the cost of the Flag Referendum will be happily handing over cash to recover (maybe) remains of dead people to make an extremely small % of the population feel marginally better about their terrible loss. I know I sound hard, but being logical, this shouldn't have been a political issue.

Well, I dipped my toes back into the GZ politics threads after not looking at them for a week or so, and kinda regret I did!

I see nothing's really changed - that same slightly toxic ooze that had permeated many of the threads prior to the election is still there in all its glory. This will no doubt ensure that many - including me - will avoid contributing, as it's inevitable where all these conversations end up...

To my mind it's a publicity stunt (probably not the right word), but along a similar vein.
