Now JA can't stop talking. She is saying they are being over sensitive. There is a proverb I wish she knew.

Better to close your mouth and appear a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

I hope she has small feet, at this point there is a chance both of them could be in her mouth!

For the rest, I don't disagree much. Yes, she should pick her battles. Yes, we don't amount to more than a grease stain on Australia's boots. I do think a degree of prudent caution needs to be exercised, but I also think it is important to 'stand up' (in some way) for your principles.

I believe the opposite that they are generally underpaid. Most put in very long hours, they are separated from family for a large percentage of the year and the burden of responsibility on the outcomes required of them is very high.

Its quite a unique type of person that wants to be in this game. With this current coalition their are lots and lots of unique politicians that will make it fascinating to watch.

That is the main reason I do not like her. She just talks way too much and takes way too many words to get her point across. She has also been promising way too much, but this seems to have died down a bit.

That is the main reason I do not like her. She just talks way too much and takes way too many words to get her point across. She has also been promising way too much, but this seems to have died down a bit.

Talking is good for a politician, makes communication a whole lot better.

I don't much care what she looks like, you can find faults with anyone if you stare hard enough, but I care that how she conducts herself and so far it's less than impressive than it could be.

Ive not actually noticed she yaks too much. Although been busy, so have missed the news often. Is it many and/or lengthy speeches on the news?

You are absolutely correct with your insinuation that there is no formal training that would prepare/qualify a person for being a Minister or PM. This is precisely why individuals vying for those positions typically target them after gaining significant experience in a particular field (or portfolio) and developing experience both politically (through learning how to win their electorate seats) and specifically related to their field by Chairing Select Committees, working alongside Ministers and ultimately running the Ministry itself, then (if demonstrating competence) possibly the entire country.

John Key's rise to PM was considered meteoric in its trajectory....

2002 Won the Helensville electorate seat. (And increased his majority in that seat at each election thereafter)

2004 Promoted to Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Finance Spokesperson

2006 Assumed Leadership of the National Party

2008 Becomes PM.

Contrast with Jacinda Ardern's parliamentary career.

2008 Lost the Waikato electorate vote (Opposition List MP)

2011 Lost the Auckland Central electorate vote (Opposition List MP)

2014 Lost the Auckland Central electorate vote (Opposition List MP)

2017 (March) Elected to Deputy Leader of the Opposition

2017 (August) Assumed Leadership of the Labour Party

2017 (October) Selected to be PM by Winston Peters

Side by side against someone who was considered to have "fast tracked" their political career better than anyone, you begin to get a sense of just how inexperienced Jacinda is.

Just to be clear - Up to the 2017 Election, Ms. Ardern had:

- Never won an electorate seat in a General Election

- Never been an MP in Government before

- Never held a ministerial portfolio

- Never sat in a cabinet meeting

- Never been part of a coalition negotiation

Now - within a 9 month period, she is running the country. She may in fact succeed, but right now she's an unknown and untested leader and that represents significant risk. Again, it may be a risk that pays big dividends, but the early signs are not promising.

Exactly. You'd think a teacher for 40+ years would have better comprehension :) His concern around me teaching basic algebra was I might cause confusion later, and he was concerned Alex may confuse other kids if he shared what he "knew".

I don't for a second think his comments were to discourage me teaching him, as the continued flow of homework indicates. Some people just are looking for any excuse to pick a hole in something.

It's more along the lines of too much on specific things, at least for me. After the comments from Barnaby, she then had to have another say, saying Australia was being too sensitive. Someone needs to take away her shovel!

I still say this was BS Teachers would never ask a parent to stop educating their child Children actually learn extremely well from other students. Too may times you have accused me of I am becoming more and more convinced you are all talk.
