sen8or: Revenue and Finance minister have come out publicly with displeasure over Hipkin's announcement about tax (before the tax policy is released publicly)

I think you're following someone else's commentary there. Looks like a journalist got Parker at a bad moment and got a headline out of one word. As for Robertson, nothing even close. Imo to claim both have "come out publically with displeasure" is just inaccurate.

Pretty sure I saw segments on the news interviewing them, both stated they weren't pleased, both gave the "team player" speech (Roberstsons could have just been the team player part, but that in itself speaks volumes).

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/justice-minister-kiri-allan-in-police-custody-after-car-crash/33K3YAECHZBDTBOFA2YR6SACCA/

The comedy aspect of the Justice Minister being arrested for resisting arrest aside, and with the obvious caveat of Kiri Allan's mental state, I feel like this is something that should have been managed very differently by Labour and the party whips well before things ever got to this point.

I feel like political bum-covering here has overtaken the need to have an objective assessment about her ability to do her job at that level over the last few weeks. If you're constantly playing down scandals, you probably lose focus on how to actually deal with them, as opposed to just gaslighting people over whether they matter or not.

Both parties have the same issue, losing skill.

To some extent yes but there's some weirdness with Labour. Their senior whip is a 2020-intake MP, so less than a full term. Which is kind of staggering given the number of MPs they have to manage and the difficult relationship they seem to have with behaviour and performance. A far cry from it being the domain of Hipkins, Mallard etc.

Maybe they've decided the Whips don't matter if you can just back yourself to spin your way out of anything that pops up. Until the Justice Minister gets arrested for resisting arrest.

With Parker having resigned as Minister of Revenue it would appear that its "publically with displeasure" with respect to the tax policy.

More spin doctoring from an out-of-touch Education Minister after accepting the independent arbitration panels recommendation on wage bargaining:

"She said she was the head of the NZEI union's primary principals negotiation team in the years during the previous National government and "it was tough, we weren't being listened to, and that's why I'm proud of this offer because while they have been protracted negotiations we have listened to our teachers"."

No, if you listened to your teachers then you would have accepted their request, not sent it to arbitration.  If you were listening to your teachers then after you agreed to arbitration then you would have accepted their request for the arbitration to be binding.

If you actually believed in the essence of the Fair Pay legislation that you rammed through Parliament then you would have had binding arbitration months ago as more than 10% of the workforce (or 1,000 workers) would have triggered the FPA equivalent.  Instead, as the only employer, you think the FPA principles only apply to the private sector employers and that you shouldnt be leading by example.

To all the extent. If you wish to list all the MP's in the news in a bad way, they are all colours. It may be the leader "she is f*cking useless" and down the food chain. But you need to step back, sit on the fence and assess ALL. Spin????  There have and are a few spin doctors, but come on, lol.

End of the day we dont have enough money to do whats needed. So we will vote on the best tax reduction/bribe that is available. As long as we are good with that, as the sectors that have dominated these threads , we are happy they are put to pasture.

Some of it is going to be tit for tat. But it doesn't change the fact that having your Senior Whip being a first-term MP is an interesting choice and possibly a reason for the uptick in problems they're having.

<sigh> I think this says it all. Their term in government back in 2017 commenced with then whip Hipkins embarrassingly muffing his voting count. 6 years later their parliamentary machine is no better.

That is honestly unacceptable. The House (government and opposition alike) are paid a lot of money to do a job, and that is the job of efficiently running the country. Not even being able to keep tabs on what is being discussed is atrocious. If they aren't ready to proceed, they should have saved the taxpayer a lot of wastage by just being upfront and deferring until they were. That they show up to parliament with no knowledge, no plan, is just wrong. Most people could only dream of being paid as much as they are, and if they were they'd get fired in half an hour for screwing up that badly.

I'm torn. Last election my vote was split between Labour and Greens, and I cannot in good conscience vote National, but Labour is a basketcase, and the Greens haven't yet stepped up to the plate.

The Greens internal factions rendered them unable to move in any coordinated fashion. Are they environmentalists or socialists. As a small party they should focus on the former and leave TPM to the latter.

As far as I'm concerned the Greens are just a front for socialist policies and at their extremes eco-terrorists.

If they could present policies that were practical and realistic instead of being totally idealist they would get more credit from me.

The select committee couldn't agree yet Minister Little can't see a problem why the bill shouldn't progress and officials provided a report that was expressly not requested by the committee. Oversight on the part of MBIE as claimed or pressure from the Minister for a report?

Devious conduct but by whom? MBIE or the government.

A case it's s good idea but we can't be seen to agree with the opposition?

Every party except Labour was in favour of the amendment.

Seems a bit petulant to me.
