"If you throw out September of this year, when job gains were depressed by hurricanes, Trump's monthly average is closer to Obama's, at 185,000, but the change in administrations doesn't appear to have had much effect on the overall job market."

Makes sense. An economy like the US is a slow moving behemoth, any regular changes, good or bad take time to filter in. What Trump means is that due to Obama's growth in employment, we are still getting that benefit under me, so on that, I shall take credit. Should employment fall, that's due to Obama. "Let's see"

I have to laugh at being accused of posting "fake news" when the accuser used a quote like that - to paraphrase:

"Let's cherry-pick to make an exception - so we can refute a fact by making an accusation that it's "fake news".

That (relative job growth) wasn't the point of my post anyway - which was that Trump's tariffs won't work, that supported not just by economic experts - but by analysis of relatively recent history.

Typical Trump supporter - blind, irrational, reactionary.

Its not an exception that was taken from NBR all they where saying was job growth has not really changed under Trump.

Who is a Trump supporter? I don't really care all that much about politics that I can have 0 impact on, its sometimes fun to jump in here post some positive trump news to break up the echo chamber.

And his own people, and GOP, and Paul Ryan, and his economist who from what I read was good at his role, European comment I think that was from

Related, this thread went on and on about how long he will last, be impeached, and so on, I think my number was 12 months. Its clear that unless there is a black and white problem that GOP can use to legally to remove him with the support of The Constitution, it wont happen. BUT, this tariff issue is a good one to get as many Republicans wild, so I support it, for that single reason. It "could" hasten his downfall

It won't, trump will not be impeached infact I think he might get a second term particularly if the democrats choose another weak candidate like Hillary Clinton.

I tend to agree, but she wasn't that bad, and now using Trump as a baseline, anyone is a gain. But no doubt the Demo's will seek a universal, neutral, clean candidate

What "positive" Trump news?

A half-hearted attempt to argue that Trump has been "good for jobs"?

If you go back much earlier in the thread, even I posted some positive comment about Trump's "aspirational" claims to want to improve the lot of the "white working class" - but so far and on balance - he's done nothing but kick them in the teeth.

Compared to Trump, an empty toilet roll would be a gain. But Hillary Clinton wasn't a great candidate either. She may not be an actual criminal, but she is a war hawk. And while I don't necessarily espouse 'peace at all costs,' not even having the stones to risk your own soldiers in order to go blow up innocent women and children in order to end the threat of terrorism (but instead doing it from air-conditioned comfort on the other side of the globe with a flying death robot) is cowardly as well as stupid.

She would have been, at best, more of the same failure of the previous twenty years.

Well that trump is not as dire as you make him out to be is probably what I would consider to be being positive.

Would you abandon a family member if they supported trump? Serious question seems to be happening alot in the USA at the moment.

PJW just release a youtube video on the subject:

Sadly, this is a (remote) possibility.

Remember that this is the country that elected George W Bush TWICE.  undecided

With hindsight, George W was a better President than Trump is now. (A benign idiot rather than a malicious idiot)

No it's not.

To "support Trump" is to support *unconditionally* his values.

If a family member was known to have been porking a porn star while his third wife was at home looking after his fifth child, if he was on record stating that it's okay to sexually assault women, if they were on record mocking the disabled, inciting political violence, empowering racists etc etc etc...

And indicated not even a hint of remorse, then no - if they unconditionally "support" that,  then they won't be stepping foot in our home nor be welcome in our extended family - which includes disabled people, women who have been abused by misogynists, people who have been persecuted because of their race.

I don't want people like that around me - or my family - regardless of whether I'm related to them.

Because they are disgusting.

Don't you dare try to preach moral family values at me - by suggesting that it should entail embracing scum.

You're trolling - I should ignore you.

In other news SK team will meet with US re the SK/NK talks. Trump seems open to this if they are genuine "we'll see"

Trump liked victories, instead of blowing them off, when the inevitable list of oil, food, money arrives, he may seek to get any kind of almost ok deal. That's makes him a winner in the eyes of the US public, what no one except me has done before, and so on. Behind the scenes, he will also see that as ammo for when they fail to comply, so its almost a win-win for Trump. Should be find a way to just blow them off, thats a win for the globe, as that will further distancethe US from the other nations
