Not that it's necessarily true, but I've read that Trump is changing his UK itinerary around in order to spend as little time in London as possible.  Apparently he's now going to spend a couple of days in Scotland.  From reading some comments on line, if he wanted to visit some place where the people loved him - that would be a tactical mistake.

The POTUS has exceeded himself.  I don't think I've ever seen so much whataboutism and so many lies condensed into so few words in his latest tweet:

You realise, of course, that if the lie is big enough, and repeated often enough, people will believe it.

Trump reportedly treats Putin like a 'confidant' and the 2 men commiserate about how the 'fake news' and 'deep state' are against them

  • President Donald Trump treats Russian President Vladimir Putin as a confidant while bullying and ignoring other world leaders.
  • Putin, meanwhile, is playing to Trump's strengths and weaknesses - the two men often commiserate over how the "fake news" and "deep state" are against them.
  • "It's not us," Putin reportedly told Trump during one recent conversation. "It's the subordinates fighting against our friendship."

Is Putin trying to recruit Trump as an unwitting Russian asset?

(I thought that he already was. undecided )

Could Trump be impeached for acting against the interests of the United States? (Note I didn't say 'would'.)

or for ...

Treason, Collusion, Conspiracy, Obstruction of Justice, Inciting Violence, Racketeering, Sexual Assault, Misconduct, Perjury of Oath, Abuse of Authority, Bribery, Intimidation, Misuse of Assets, Failure to Supervise, Dereliction of Duty, Unbecoming Conduct and Refusal to Obey a Lawful Order, Malfeasance in Public Office, Organizing Hate Crimes, Witness Tampering, Tax Evasion, Breach of Contract, Money Laundering, Using Office of President For Personal Profit ...

(see my post of 05 July)

Remember that Al Capone was convicted and jailed for Income Tax Evasion in 1931 - not for his many other worse crimes.

I just wish they would hurry up and do it. He has already racked up years worth of damage and it grows every day.

I wouldn't be holding your breath on that.  He's got far too much support from the GOP, those who might waver would be marked for removal, they've got too much to lose (they won't get elected if they're not Trumpists, the entire GOP is toast if Trump is defeated).

Even if every Democrat votes in the mid-terms, it's touch and go whether that could change anything much at all.

If it's bad now (from the POV of a ramping up of lies, propaganda, hate for the press, inciting intolerance etc - globally), just wait until the wind-up for the 2020 Elections.

I always wondered what it must have been like at the end of the Roman Republic. I guess I will find out.

I'm more concerned about his ongoing influence following the end of his second term as POTUS.

https://www.quora.com/Did-most-people-in-the-Roman-Empire-know-that-it-was-ending

"Did most people in the Roman Empire know that it was ending?"

"The West Roman empire 'fell' 'not with a bang but with a whimper'.

Historians have arbitrarily chosen 476 A.D. as the date of the fall of the Empire because that’s when Odoacer deposed the last Emperor (who spent the rest of his life comfortably in a seaside villa).

The West Roman empire decayed and faded away rather than going down in fire and blood.

...I doubt that many people thought to themselves 'the Empire has fallen'."
