I was thinking of the Republic rather than the Empire. It fell because the politicians became venal and corrupt, and stopped respecting the rule of law. After that a reassuring strong man came along and shaped things up, and the Empire had its moments of glory thanks to military power and good generals, but any semblance of democracy and the rule of law was gone. History does seem to be repeating itself. First, bring in the clowns, Then, turn to a strong man to clean things up. Maybe Putin can recommend someone.

If it's bad now (from the POV of a ramping up of lies, propaganda, hate for the press, inciting intolerance etc - globally), just wait until the wind-up for the 2020 Elections.

I'm more concerned about his ongoing influence following the end of his second term as POTUS.

I can only take in so much at one time.

I did have a haunting dream about Ivanka the Gormless at her swearing in - garbed in a dalmatian skin coat.

Of course. My apologies. My concern is long term, not now, because long term is where the real danger sits.

Now has already happened and that is where Trump has had the lead since his election. Libs are left with no response but the inevitable name calling and collective social media outrage. At this stage, there is NO alternative political response (apart from vitriol, spitting and name calling).

Trump will be more dangerous following the end of his second term.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/politics/ct-trump-montana-rally-20180705-story.html

"...Trump repeated slams on key Democrats, ridiculing claims by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., a possible 2020 presidential challenger, of Native American heritage and referring to her again as 'Pocahontas.' Trump said he would give Warren a DNA test kit in the middle of a debate and offer $1 million for her favorite charity, 'paid for by Trump, if you take the test and it shows you're an Indian.'

'We will take that little kit, but we have to do it gently because we're in the #MeToo generation, so we have to be very gentle, and we will very gently take that kit and we will slowly toss it,' he said.

Warren responded on Twitter, advising Trump: 'While you obsess over my genes, your Admin is conducting DNA tests on little kids because you ripped them from their mamas & you are too incompetent to reunite them in time to meet a court order. Maybe you should focus on fixing the lives you're destroying.'

Warren was referring to the Health and Human Services Department's announcement that it will use DNA to confirm parent-child links as it tries to reunite families separated at the U.S.-Mexico border."

Remember this quote before he was elected?

Will Trump Be Meeting With His Counterpart - Or His Handler?

Too complicated to summarise, but worth reading.

The concluding paragraph:

... As Trump arranges to meet face-to-face and privately with Vladimir Putin later this month, the collusion between the two men metastasizing from a dark accusation into an open alliance, it would be dangerous not to consider the possibility that the summit is less a negotiation between two heads of state than a meeting between a Russian-intelligence asset and his handler.

Trump's got a no doubt unwelcome extra issue WRT Russia. The woman - latest "accidental" Novochok victim - "collateral damage" from Putin's brazen assassination attempt has died, they are not happy about it in the UK.  Trump is meeting with his delightful Russian friend after leaving the UK - probably hoping for approval if Trump unilaterally further sabotages Europe and NATO.

I hope by then he'll be taking out his frustration on the restraining straps in the ward, cursing the moon, solid gold lining in his incontinence undies, boxing gloves so he can't grab the nurses, whatever.

Have in mind these "judges" are from the DOJ, not from the judiciary. Trump and his administration force one year old kid show up and defend himself in an immigration court.

This is the country the white, racist, religious right has created - led by a man who has no morals.

It was like this, yes. But there was a change in policy, introducing a non-exceptions.

Another day, another few steps toward "corporatisation" of the world, led by what is now a rogue US Kingdom.  Babies in this one too:

Trump sided with formula manufacturers to try to stop a pro-breastfeeding resolution at the United Nations.

Evil knows no bounds.  Oh - but what about the babies markets?

Trump doesn't care about health. He doesn't care about rights. He cares about businesses profiting.

And idiots who will be left without a job or healthcare voted for him.

Thank you for this. If true, it is pretty disturbing. Even if only partly true, it is still disturbing.

There's a campaign to get the Green Day song (from 2004) "American Idiot" to top of the UK music charts in time for Trump's arrival.
Seems to be working too - apparently it's at #1 on Amazon UK, #9 and rising on iTunes UK, and has cracked the top 20 on UK "official" singles chart.

Nice work - what a great way to protest:
