Trump has just done an interview (with a Murdoch paper of course):

 

  • Under May's Brexit deal, any trade agreement with the US is probably off.
  • He's torn into London Mayor Sadiq Khan for not standing up to terrorists and blamed Khan for spiralling crime in the capital
  • Insisted former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson would make “a great Prime Minister”

All entirely within character (or lack of in this case) and expected. After this hatchet attack on the British PM, he's off to see the Queen.

 

I wonder how she'd feel about the vulgarian pussy-grabbing braggart trying to bully the UK into changing leadership?

 

 

Khan to blame for terrorists too. May gave them an honourable and pleasant welcome speech. But hey, if he keeps on sowing these seeds, thats fine with me.

She's met with assorted tyrants, and in some cases to work in with government diplomatic objectives - flattering tyrants in unsuccessful attempts to get them to change their ways.  Mugabe, Ceausescu etc.  However they weren't directly interfering - openly trying to oust an elected leader of the UK.  She may feel obliged in this case to do something (OTOH she's ancient).  She may not "express any shading of political opinion in public" - but even meeting with Trump under these circumstances could be seen to be tainted.  She should call the meeting off - but she won't.

 

Boris should also probably feel uncomfortable about Trump's interference - but I guess feeling that would require having both a conscience in the first place, and the foresight that he risks being seen forever to be an unelected PM lapdog to the "stable genius", and ultimately a traitor to his own country.  If he wanted to he could have probably toppled May without a helping hand.

She can't publicly make, or even be suspected to have made, statements in regards to her preferences for the PM. It would be a constitutional no-no, even if she was only telling Donald Trump to STFU. The Crown is of course dramatised, but the whiff of scandal surrounding her private suggestion that Qyburn should resign and let someone else take over the office of Prime Minister was not entirely wrong.

I saw the look on May's face when Jeremy Corbyn was speaking about the discord in the cabinet - it was the look of a beaten PM, someone who knows they won't be in the job much longer.

Boris Johnson has nowhere near enough support in the Conservative party to become leader and hence PM.

 

It may be one of the new faces like Jeremy Hunt or Sajid Javid (Trump would have a reall hissy fit with the British PM called that wouldn't he). Also Ruth Davidson has often been mentioned.

 

The one thing that would not happen is another general election. The Tories won't want to risk Corbyn sneeking in and of course the Labour party is split as much as the Tories over Brexit so they might prefer to stay out of power until the dust settles.

Imagine if you will that the Queen decides to talk with Melania about her grand-children or something else, & gets Charles and Andrew to entertain Trump for an hour or so. So there's Donald Trump, Prince Charles, and Prince Andrew sitting in a room. Would they find anything to talk about or would it be about the most unpleasant hour any of them have spent?

To add to it, apparently the DUP have indicated they'll pull support for May unless <list of right wing demands>

 

It's a nightmare - a snap election might actually be the most democratic solution.  I don't know enough about it to comment on likelihood of that, they seem stuffed if they do, stuffed if they don't.

 

It might have been that way regardless of Trump, but he's stuck his nose in nonetheless.
