It's not all Trump's doing - but in light of the apparent acceleration of DPRK's nuclear programme - he's Johnny on the spot.

It's a delicate diplomatic issue, someone sane should be handling it.  Trump isn't - he's only concerned about how he looks in the eyes of his supporters.

 

He can't carry out his wild west threats - I hope he realises that.

 

 

To put it mildly he isn't helping. But he is Johnny on the spot. I am unsure how diplomacy can help now as NK wont give up nuclear, thats off the table. 

 

As I mentioned earlier I cant see the US firing first shot, but my issue is that its all gone too far in the last few short years, NK have done a good job, and thats opened the stable door

 

AFAIK South Africa is the only country to give up nuclear.

Nobody else wants to give up a nuclear deterrent when they've got it - why would you?

Some care is needed to avoid appearance of double standards, India and Pakistan are nuclear armed, neither are signatories to the non proliferation treaty, one isn't exactly a model of stable government.  Meanwhile the USA doesn't seem to have a problem selling hundreds of billions of dollars worth of conventional weapons to Saudi Arabia - a nation that isn't too far behind NK when it comes to human rights abuses.

I think there's a danger if we look at DPRK with a US-centric bias.  South Korea, China - they're probably the only ones likely to find a solution.  But China won't do the USA's bidding if it's got the appearance of Trump holding a gun to their heads - using trade etc for leverage.
