It's just occurred to me that if Trump declared a spurious National Emergency, leading to the enforcement of martial law, etc - could he depend on the US military to carry out his orders?

Are there separate voting statistics for the US armed forces? Is the Navy, say, pro-Trump? By X percent? The Airforce anti-Trump by Y percent. Or are those figures just buried in the American state-by-state records?

It's one thing for Trump to have the potential power to sidestep America's democratic processes, but a whole 'nuther ballgame to implement that power.

I hopefrown

kingdragonfly: Trump's Witness Tampering; Wisconsin GOP's Power Grab:

"Late night with Seth Meyers" takes a closer look at the how Donald Trump along with Republicans in Michigan and Wisconsin pose a threat to democracy.

Outstanding!    +1

One highlight ...

Dana Nessel is an American attorney and [Democrat] politician from the state of Michigan, who was elected Attorney General of Michigan in 2018.

She is the first openly LGBTQ person elected to statewide office in Michigan.

From her campaign commercial:

Hasn't he already pretty well done that?  The "caravan" of destitute and desperate unarmed Central/South American asylum seekers, women and children, he mobilised thousands of heavily armed troopers for no practical reason.  This for political reasons - not "national security".  As far as Trump was concerned, these people were criminals.

The Washington Post - Welcome to the Fox News presidency

The concluding paragraphs:

If Trump has fashioned his presidency like a television show, it’s one aimed directly at Fox’s audience.

Anger, resentment and fear are the pillars of the Fox oeuvre, just as they are of the Trump presidency.

Politics isn’t a search for solutions to problems; it’s a place where you’re told over and over what you should be mad about, who you should despise, and what’s threatening you and everything you hold dear.

New threats are presented - The caravan! The War on Christmas! - and are given intense blanket coverage before getting dropped and forgotten as though they never happened.

What matters is keeping viewers in a state of perpetual agitation so they’ll keep tuning in.

Underneath all of it are a few master narratives: that we are caught up in a battle between darkness and light, that change is bad and that what makes America great is either endangered or has been lost.

This is what Fox tells its audience, and this is what Trump tells his audience.

The Washington Post - Russians interacted with at least 14 Trump associates during the campaign and transition

The Russian ambassador. A deputy prime minister. A pop star, a weightlifter, a lawyer, a Soviet army veteran with alleged intelligence ties.

In all, Russians interacted with at least 14 Trump associates during the campaign and presidential transition, public records and interviews show.

Seems to be getting seriouser and seriouser. Still a while away yet, but it does seem to be heating up, and not just clickbait.

Important: this is not Mueller's team, the ongoing Russian investigation.

This is from New York State, which is completely separate from the federal justice system.

It can prosecute Trump separately from the FBI. Trump is not going to escape Justice.

He's a jocker, he's a smocker, he's a midnight tocker...

He's also admitted to paying off Stormy in that tweet.
