In answer to your questions, which are quite obvious

 

Political discussion here is a joke, its also a hoot to read though. This thread is normal

 

We are lucky as we are remote. The US heading to the gutter will affect us, but less so than many countries. So you wish to allow immigration, but not if they hate Trump? Ok. The world leaders are well into contingencies. When the trade was was mooted, other nations have been talking trade to reduce the reliance on the US and its tariffs, and the general trend is to back away from the US, these are good moves.

I feel lucky because I have lived in America and I live here so I can make a real comparison. I feel lucky because we don't have crazies going around shooting up schools. I feel lucky because our rabid racist right-wingers are few in number and socially isolated. I feel lucky because our politicians, whatever their ideologies and whatever their dumb mistakes, are nearly all fundamentally decent and humane. I feel lucky because I live here and not there. America has become a toxic society, though hope and the possibility of change certainly remains, but many people are voting with their feet and they are coming here so they can feel lucky too.

 

In the meantime, here is another very interesting item on the possibility that Trump has already been indicted. I do indeed feel lucky.

Ive never lived there but have travelled a lot there, and used to go there for a month every year, in essence, short term living there. The country is great, the people are great, its a huge pity that this POTUS makes all that meaningless to most in the world. The toxic events continue to grow

I think there's plenty of rabid to go around over there.  As SaltyNZ suggested, it seems to transcend left & right categorisation once it gets to a certain point.

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In a tense meeting on Monday, leading Cabinet members warned Donald J. Trump that shutting down the federal government would make it exponentially harder for them to steal from.

 

Led by his Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin, the Cabinet members begged Trump to prevent a government showdown that would bring their brazen spree of pillaging the nation’s coffers to a screeching halt.

 

“Mr. President, with the federal government up and running, I was able to take seven trips on military aircraft at a cost of eight hundred thousand dollars,” Mnuchin said. “I implore you, sir: don’t make me fly coach.”

 

Trump’s three oldest children, Ivanka, Eric, and Don, Jr., who have piled up impressive taxpayer-funded travel bills of their own, chimed in with an emotional plea to their father. “Daddy, please don’t make us stop plundering government money,” Ivanka said. “Not right before Christmas.”

 

The normally taciturn Housing and Urban Development Secretary, Ben Carson, also spoke up, warning that a government shutdown would make it impossible for him to accessorize his thirty-one-thousand-dollar dining-room set by purchasing seven-thousand-dollar place mats. “I’d really like those,” he said.

 

According to Kellyanne Conway, the counsellor to the President, the emotional Cabinet meeting had a profound impact on Trump. “For the first time he saw how a government shutdown would hurt people,” Conway said.

This is a surprisingly good piece by the daughter of the Reagans, of all people. 

 

This one is on the systematic hijacking of social media sites to plant Russian misinformation worms in people's brains. The range and extent of it is frightening. There is so much on the Washington Post that we should just have a permanent link to it. Even better, become a subscriber.

They are both based largely on data about the Russian operations provided to the Senate by Facebook, Twitter and the other companies whose platforms were used.

The New Knowledge report is one of two commissioned by the Senate committee on a bipartisan basis.

The second report was written by the Computational Propaganda Project at Oxford University along with Graphika, a company that specializes in analyzing social media.

 

 

The Russian influence campaign in 2016 was run by a St. Petersburg company called the Internet Research Agency, owned by a businessman, Yevgeny V. Prigozhin, who is a close ally of President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia.

 

Mr. Prigozhin and a dozen of the company’s employees were indicted last February as part of the investigation of Russian interference by Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel.

Trump Foundation to shutdown under judicial orders. A judge will distribute anything left between actual charities.

 

 

Donald Trump has agreed to shut down his personal charity, the Trump Foundation, in the wake of a succession of scandals and a looming lawsuit which exposed a “shocking pattern of illegality”.

 

Trump had used the charity to pay off legal settlements within his business and even to buy a painting of himself to hang in one of his golf clubs.

 

The news that the charity will shut down was announced by New York’s attorney general, Barbara Underwood, who said the Trump Foundation had signed a stipulation agreeing to dissolve the foundation under judicial supervision.

 

Any remaining funds must be distributed to charitable causes which can be chosen by Trump and his children Ivanka, Don Jr and Eric, but they must be submitted to the court within 30 days and approved by the attorney general.
