What concerns me most about this whole putrid thread is the easy way that people use and throw around the word ABUSE.

Trust me people, most of you (I hope) have NO IDEA of what ABUSE is (regardless of age)

How do you know what other people have experienced or even what proportion of people have experienced sexual assault when it is believed to be under-reported?

Unless a person says "I have (not) been sexually assaulted" you just don't know.

Even using a word like most may not be accurate.

I am sure both Nats and Labour will reign in their youth branches after this. Like what was said before I think JA showed her weakness with her response to this sage. Waiting so long to make a public statement is simply not done when your own party is guilty of abuse. She cannot have her cake and eat it too.

No-one here from what I have read has thrown around the word "abuse" in a demeaning way or what I have seen on the media.

To have this abuse in a Labour party function and for it to have happened before, and to discuss the consequences the party is taking to ensure this never happens again is the issue.

Explain why...hmm...once again you are difficult to fathom. Abuse comes in many forms and you Sir, do not have exclusivity on the word or are the only one who understands what the word means. The sexual abuse in this case against 4 teenagers has been confirmed and admitted by all parties, including 2 of the teens, with at least one having gone to the police after a time of non action by the Labour Party.

The reason I am concerned by your thread is that you indicate you have personal abuse issues that may not have been dealt with properly yet. I will not be engaging with you any more on this issue.

Abuse in any form can vary from minor to serious, but in itself the word "abuse" does not imply the severity of the incident, but merely the nature of it.

While the facts are not known, it would seem that this incident leans towards the minor end of the scale, not the serious end. Not that that in any way excuses the accused, but in the assumption that this was a minor incident, using the word abuse can seem somewhat flippant. And of course it must be remembered that this discussion is more about the labour party and their actions (or lack of) rather than the incident itself.

Invariably a word takes meaning based on our personal circumstances. "Abuse" means to each individual what they personally know of it through their own experience, or what they have seen in others. But to assume that each individual's perception of a word iin any particular situation will be the same, or to assume that my own perception is the only correct perception, is wrong.

It's sadly predictable to see Labour's EPMU influence being put to good use at the NZHerald today...

This is how the alleged offending is now being portrayed:

A drunken yobbo falling over four 16-year-olds and being deeply remorseful and unable to remember the groping the next day isn't something you'd expect the Prime Minister to have to be fronting up to the nation on

Remember, this is in the context of fresh allegations of sexual assaults occurring at Labour-organised events almost every day since this story initially broke.

BTW - I realise that this is a sensitive subject for a lot of people. I am not trying to make light of sexual assault or abuse of any kind here. I am, however, hugely disappointed with the manner in which these allegations have been handled by the Labour Party. Their efforts to cover up, deflect, and minimise what appears to be a systemic issue (similar to reports from Russell McVeigh) is leaving a sick taste in my mouth.

Calling something a Labour anything camp in the first place seems ill thought out.

Barry Sopers article was a disgrace. I now try and avoid his one-sided type of reporting.

Apparantenyl there was a large walk-in chiller with unfettered access to alcohol. That should be a criminal matter, but at the very least it would be grounds for employment review and if found responsible, sackings.
