President Donald Trump on Friday urged people to get vaccinated for measles, saying it’s “so important” amid the worst year for the disease in the U.S. since it was declared eliminated from the country in 2000.

“They have to get the shots. The vaccinations are so important. This is really going around now. They have to get their shots.” ...

President Donald Trump told the Associated Press that he has a "natural instinct for science" that informs his understanding of climate change and allows him to see through the political bias that he accused some scientists of holding.

In his interview the president reiterated his belief that the climate is changing but argued that the climate "goes back and forth, back and forth." He claimed that scientists are divided on whether climate change is the result of human activity, even though the vast majority of climate scientists believe that it is.

"You have scientists on both sides of it. My uncle was a great professor at MIT for many years, Dr. John Trump," the president said. "And I didn’t talk to him about this particular subject, but I have a natural instinct for science, and I will say that you have scientists on both sides of the picture."

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden released an ad. It was about Trump's unwillingness to condemn a 2017 white supremacists event.

One used his car as a deadly weapon, to mount a sidewalk and run down peaceful protesters.

Naturally Trump took the Joe Biden's bait.

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump defended his widely criticized comments that there were fine people on "both sides" of the violent clashes in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017, saying the utterance was put "perfectly."

"If you look at what I said, you will see that that question was answered perfectly," he told reporters outside the White House on Friday. "I was talking about people who went because they felt very strongly about the monument to Robert E. Lee, a great general.”

The violence in Charlottesville erupted after counter-protesters clashed with white nationalists and others who were part of the Unite the Right rally. Those groups were protesting Charlottesville's decision to remove a statue of the Confederate general Robert E. Lee. The violence left one woman dead.

Trump's "both sides" comment prompted bipartisan outrage with many people viewing the wording as equating the actions of the white nationalists to those of the counter-protesters.

“It was not only morally ambiguous, it was equivocating,” then-House Speaker Paul Ryan, a Republican, said at a CNN Town Hall, adding that Trump's comments were "wrong."

"People there were protesting the taking down of the monument to Robert E. Lee. Everybody knows that," Trump told reporters.

The Charlottesville violence played a central role in new Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden's campaign announcement video on Thursday. In the message, Biden attacked the president's reaction.

"Trump stunned the world and shocked the conscience of this nation. He said there were ‘some very fine people on both sides.’ Very fine people on both sides?"

With those words, the president of the United States assigned a moral equivalence between those spreading hate and those with the courage to stand against it. And in that moment, I knew the threat to this nation was unlike any I had ever seen in my lifetime."

Biden called Charlottesville "a defining moment for this nation in the last few years."

“We can't forget what happened in Charlottesville," he said. "Even more important, we have to remember who we are. This is America."

Asked if he still believed there were very fine people on both sides, Trump defended the demonstrators aggrieved at the removal of the Lee statue, and went on to praise the legacy of the Confederate general.

"Whether you like it or not, he was one of the great generals," he said.

Analysts said organizers called the march to support white supremacy, not to protest statute removal.

Well d'oh, Lee was captured. That's what surrender means. He surrendered, he lost the war, he was captured. Some great general that is. Trump is not only ignorant and dumb, he is inconsistent and just plain wrong. But what can you expect from someone whose bone spurs never made it into combat?

The dispute, which spilled out into the public with dueling comments from each camp, revolves around Mr. Barr’s objections to the Democrats’ proposed format for questioning him about the special counsel’s report. ...

“The witness is not going to tell the committee how to conduct its hearing, period,” the committee chairman, Representative Jerrold Nadler, Democrat of New York, told CNN.

If Mr. Barr does not show up, Mr. Nadler added, “then we will have to subpoena him, and we will have to use whatever means we can to enforce the subpoena.”

The power of impeachment, by which the English House of Commons accused people who were then tried by the House of Lords, was first used in 1376.

French dictionaries trace "empêcher", meaning to prevent or hinder, back to an Anglo-Norman Psalter of the 12th Century.

While Latin versions of a psalm say 'God "impedivit" the Israelites', the Psalter translated this as "empedecad".

Impedivit is from the Latin "impedio" meaning trap or hinder, perhaps "trip up" - related to pedis meaning "of a foot".

"Empedecad" is more akin to impedicare, to trap - from pedica meaning a shackle or snare.

So, by the late 14th Century when the reformer John Wyclif preached against the misuse of Church privileges, the word 'empêcher' was in common use.

Said Wycliff, "Whatsoever thief or felon" takes refuge in a house of religion, he can dwell there all his life "and no man empeche hym".

Sounds like a good exit strategy for Trump: Move into St.Pats.

Since his first days on the job, Rosenstein’s role in the Trump administration was controversial, from the firing of FBI Director James B. Comey in May 2017 to the conclusion by Rosenstein and Attorney General William P. Barr that there was not sufficient evidence for an obstruction-of-justice case against the president.
