I reserve judgment on the banished hat. Removing it from display could either be common sense, politically expedient, or a sign that Tod Muller has elastic principles.

Personally, I'm more concerned about his stance against abortion and euthanasia.

Maybe these principles will join the hat.

As mentioned on here earlier in the thread IMO Luxon is far from certain to be successful. IMO he's far too smug and comes across as a bit of a knob (I felt that way well before reading about his political aspirations).

He's certainly not John Key, despite certain people positioning him that way.

He's certainly not John Key, despite certain people positioning him that way.

My read on Luxon is it seems his greatest success at Air NZ was coasting along on the work Rob Fyfe did during his tenure as CEO. He also got out at the right time it seems.

Todd thought that he could just come along and say I'm better in business so vote for me. To be a PM it requires a bit more than that. I'm not saying he should be like John Key. What I mean is John said, I'll lower tax and sure hi did. To his mates, for the rest of the population he hiked GST. Good old John cut a lot of things you would not notice unless you need it. Here I am thinking health care, or parts there of. I'm sure Todd would be on similar line and not too Catholic when it comes to be fair across the population.
I must admit I had a chuckle during the first few days.
I'm not saying Jacinda is the best of all. One thing for sure, she was the best we could wish for during covid19 and she would be the best person to continue at the moment.

The recovery is going to require a huge amount of money to spent and we'll need something to show for it. Another two years of fumbling around the edges with constant expectation resets and no ministerial accountability won't cut it. This, I think, is National's only real chance at beating Labour - to highlight how little they actually got done and how much of a gamble it would be to expect them to suddenly come good when we need them to execute flawlessly.

Not that National is proving they have the know how of how to execute anything but each other this point, but this probably how it will go.

As a committed non-National voter, and one who doesn't like to see too much power concentrated in one place, I usually end up voting Greens for lack of anything better. I am an unabashed fan of Jacinda Ardern but I will probably still end up voting Greens.

I try to keep myself honest by at least considering National as an option, but I just can't see myself ever moving in that direction. Whatever mistakes and sheer stupidities the government makes, my bottom line is always would things be better under National and I have never been able to convince myself they would. I don't like most National policies, though there are occasional exceptions, and I really don't like most National politicians. Again, there are exceptions but I just find them unpleasant people I would not want to have dinner with. Of course that is based entirely on my perception of their public profiles. I have never met any of them.

I don't know how much of Labour's non-performance can fairly be blamed on Winston Peters. He certainly hasn't helped matters. What I would really like to see, just for once, is a government that could competently implement many of the progressive policies Labour pays lip service to, especially in the areas of health, housing and public transport. I would like to see some real imagination and innovation (and courage) applied to tax and welfare reform. I would like to see an end to grinding poverty, not by punishing the rich, but by changing society. Since none of these things seems likely to happen, and since I never believe any political party's policy promises, I will reluctantly keep voting non-National just to keep National away from power for as long as possible. Maybe one day they will come up with a palatable shadow cabinet. Miracles are possible, I suppose.

The government is a massive bureaucracy and each minister is responsible for the actions of thousands of people. Robertson is minister of finance, not the Tsar making all the decisions and executing all the policies.

He allocates each ministry money and then it's up to the minister to spend it.

The same people will be doing the same job but you expect a different result. How?

Twyford is responsible for Economic development, not Robertson. Robertson isn't sitting around looking for things to do. He is busy enough with finance.

Governments rely on big teams, the jobs are too big for one person to run a government alone.
