He's going in jail a long time, likely dying in jail. A presidential pardon won't work, as the Trump can only pardon federal crimes, because Manafort's already admitted guilt to plenty of state level crimes

After weeks of dismissing the impeachment inquiry as a hollow partisan attack, President Trump and his closest advisers now recognize that the snowballing probe poses a serious threat to the president - and that they have little power to block it, according to multiple aides and advisers.

 

The dawning realization comes as Democrats rapidly gather evidence from witness after witness testifying about the pressure put on Ukraine to investigate Trump’s political rivals. 

 

The president is increasingly frustrated that his efforts to stop people from cooperating with the probe have so far collapsed under the weight of legally powerful congressional subpoenas, advisers said.

 

The Democratic strategy got a boost Friday from a federal judge, who ruled that the House impeachment inquiry is legal. 

 

In the coming week, House investigators are scheduled to hear testimony from five more witnesses, including on Saturday from an acting assistant secretary of state for Europe, who is expected to testify about the efforts to oust the previous U.S. ambassador. ...

Republicans have been complaining that the White House lacks a consistent message on impeachment. 

 

Really, the problem is the White House has too many messages - and none of them very good. ...

 

  • The call was perfect.
  • The emoluments clause is phony.
  • Adam Schiff is a corrupt liar.
  • Adam Schiff is the whistleblower’s secret informant.
  • Bill Taylor is part of a coordinated smear campaign by radical unelected bureaucrats.
  • Democrats are an angry pack of rabid hyenas.
  • What are Democrats hiding in their Soviet-style star chamber?
  • Human scum!
  • It’s a coup!
  • No, it’s a lynching!
  • No, it’s a witch hunt!

  • The few attempts at a coherent defense have crumbled. “No quid pro quo” became “We do that all the time.”

  • I am in way over my head.
  • I have no idea what’s legal or illegal.
  • My staff is incompetent.

The Trump campaign has over $1 million in outstanding bills from American cities

Albuquerque has joined a lengthy list of U.S. cities with a simple request: that President Trump’s campaign pay for the costs incurred during a rally. On Wednesday, the Albuquerque Journal reported that the city sent an invoice to Trump’s reelection campaign in an effort to recoup more than $211,000 in expenses from a September rally. That figure includes more than $71,000 in police overtime.

The Trump campaign’s indifference to municipal bills became a significant issue earlier this month when the city of Minneapolis attempted to get paid in advance for a rally Trump was planning to hold in the city. The president and his campaign publicly berated Minneapolis’s mayor. But even then it was easy to see why a city would want Trump’s team to pay in advance.

As the Minneapolis rally loomed, CNN went back to a number of cities that had been identified in June by the Center for Public Integrity as places with outstanding bills in to the Trump campaign. CNN found that there was at least $841,000 still outstanding. The total, though, is more than that: Dave Levinthal, who reported the initial tallies for the Center for Public Integrity, confirmed in an email to The Washington Post on Thursday that he had checked back with all the cities he had identified in July and that none had been paid as of his most recent outreach.

Adding in the bill from Albuquerque, that brings the total outstanding bill to more than $1 million — $1,052,395.78, to be precise. El Paso, which hasn’t been paid for costs from a February rally, added a late fee of about $99,000 earlier this year, bringing the total to $1,151,183.36. Add in the $530,000 that Minneapolis was originally seeking and the total nears $1.7 million.

Before being elected president, Trump had earned a reputation for not paying vendors who had done work for the Trump Organization. In this case, though, the bills fall into something of a gray area. The campaign generally doesn’t sign contracts for additional police officers, so the cities don’t have binding agreements to recoup the costs. As Levinthal suggested in June, it’s more of a norm that the bills would be paid — and Trump has certainly earned a reputation for sidestepping norms since entering the world of politics.

I just stumbled across the following statement on CNN, attributed to White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham: "I worked with John Kelly, and he was totally unequipped to handle the genius of our great President."

 

The genius of our great President? You have got to be kidding. Do people actually talk like this? I keep thinking of those little men in the big hats around Kim Jong-Un grinning like apes and applauding as images of anti-aircraft guns dance in their heads. If someone as nauseatingly sycophantic as this represents the new standard of White House competency, god help us all!
