I moved my day to day banking from NBNZ to ASB about 18 months ago. It was a good move, especially for a geek as ASB are probably the most technologically advanced of the NZ banks.
I still use BNZ for my NZ credit card tho. Global Plus is the best

Yup, that is one other question. What will happen to my national bank thoroughbred card? I prefer money-back reward. I dont think ANZ has something similar.
I think I disagree on that for people in small towns. Already when I go into the bank there are lines where you can wait 10 minutes. If they combine the branches so there is just one servicing both ANZ and NB customers, unless they double the size of the bank and increase the number of tellers, I can see the waiting times being higher.
They have stated that no front line staff will be losing their jobs as a result of this merger so I would imagine that any branches they do close will have their staff moved into the other to double its size.
I would take that with a grain of salt. ANZ has dumped staff before .. I suspect that there will be allot of defections to the like of TSB and Kiwi Bank.. I know of several that don't want a bar of the ANZ brand..

I have heard a lot of this particularly with regard to Kiwi Bank. The most common phrase has been 'final nail in the coffin'.
It says that they will close 20 branches, but that doesn't mean they won't close more in the future as leases expire. I am sure my local one will close eventually as the ANZ is across the road, and it is a small town with just one shopping street.

Hopefully ANZ are holding onto National Banks bank number (06) for existing accounts as changing things around, whilst not a huge problem for me (but still irritating), could be a major for some.
It may be a good excuse to move to a bank that is more NZ-centric though.

Can't see why they would change.
Ex Postbank customers now under the ANZ brand still have their 11-prefix accounts.

That's a good question. I think that you will very soon be issued with an ANZ branded card, likely matched to one of the existing ANZ card offerings.
If they choose, they could in theory 'grandfather' the current card schemes and give you the same rewards deal you have now, but not offer it to new customers.
Alternatively, they would start offering cash back rewards to ANZ customers, or force you off it onto a standard ANZ offering. Really depends how they want to play it.
Only one thing is for sure, your card won't have the horse on it for much longer.
I have a ANz qantas card and was offered a change to cashbacks recently. Which strangely is the only thing i dislike with National my cashback visa so i think for a while not much will change just the what u call it

Pretty sure they will be kept. Some banks seem to share prefixes too, I think both rabo bank and westpac both use the same prefix.

IMO this is the best value rewards card out! They appear to be keeping it and re-branding it to ANZ Cashback Visa - the info is on this page under Accounts and Products.
Personally I'll be shopping around in a few months when my mortgage comes off fixed rate... but will keep my Visa with ANZ if the cashback rewards stay the same.
