Big non event?
ANZ are picking up most of the superior National Bank systems, both public and internal. Basically it's good news for most ANZ customers, and business as usual for National Bank customers. ANZ have owned the rights to National Bank for many years now anyway.

They've been combined for ages, but running two IT system to do the same thing. Scrapping one makes perfect sense, and customers won't really be affected.

My understanding is they are getting very close to one back office platform anyway, so it is essentially one bank with two brands.

Seeing as ANZ have to licence the National Bank brand (Horse etc) from LLoyds TSB in the UK, it makes sense to drop the NBNZ branding in favour of the ANZ brand which they old all of the IP for.

Perosnally I have had problems with the NBs service recently, and I have been with them for about 30 years. NOt sure if that is the ANZ rubbing off on them. But NB has been owned by the ANZ for many years now. I will probably close my NB account, and move my accounts over to TSB.

I think I disagree on that for people in small towns. Already when I go into the bank there are lines where you can wait 10 minutes. If they combine the branches so there is just one servicing both ANZ and NB customers, unless they double the size of the bank and increase the number of tellers, I can see the waiting times being higher.

They have stated that no front line staff will be losing their jobs as a result of this merger so I would imagine that any branches they do close will have their staff moved into the other to double its size.

I concur on the backoffice - I think that has been happening for years. This is all about whether they want to write another cheque out to use the horse. From memory when ANZ purchased NBNZ they got the rights to the horse for 7 years so they have already extended the license once.

Rebrand. The ANZ customers are coming onto the NBNZ systems so at some point it will be rebranded to ANZ

They are only closing about 20 branches (Of about 300) nationwide, and only where there are say two large branches next to each other. They have also confirmed no staff cuts (Assume a few roles will go through attrition)

So my account has gone: United --> CountryWide --> National --> ANZ.

My account had some very useful quirks with CountryWide, which National, unfortunately, eventually fixed post-buyout.

I don't expect much difference one way or another.

This will impact ANZ customers more than NBNZ customers. NBNZ customer will start seeing a new logo and colour scheme and that's about it.

ANZ customers lose some minor functionality, and gain some too as they move onto NBNZ platforms.

Possibly the biggest impact is to ANZ customers who have a customer number that is the same as a NBNZ customer number, in which case the ANZ customer gets given a new customer number.

I'm a long term national customer (30+ years)

Was not happy when ANZ bought them out

Have been quite annoyed by some of their silly fees and charges and their excessive profiteering

This development has motivated me to look around

I dont want to be a customer of the worst bank in NZ

ANZ bank is not too bad. I found National Bank has better service.

I am currently looking to move bank to either Kiwi Bank or Westpac.

National Bank service has been going downhill for a few years. Changed to Asb last year and they are much better.
