Let's be honest.

Any meaningful change in tax rules would be political suicide.

So its a bit disingenuous to complain that the tax change is pointless because it raises a smaller amount of money.

If you want to significantly increase tax take you have to bring in policies that affect alot if people which is vote losing.

Put the changes into a personal context. What changes that would largely increase your tax bill would you support as opposed to changes that largely affect other peoples tax bill.

frankv: The man at the bottom rarely, if ever, gets perks. So it's completely irrelevant, not a kick in the teeth.

The guy at the bottom will loose his perks first because the boss is still going to get his car of course, but companies will cut perks starting at the bottom and working their way up the ladder.

Again, since despite highlighting it you appeared not to comprehend. The guy at the bottom does not get perks. He never did. So he won't lose them. You're at some kind of middle management/skilled level before you get any perks.

not true

Employee discounts - these can be (and should be) subject to FBT

Subsidised canteen / cafeteria

Health Care / Medical Insurance

These are just some examples of "perks" offered to multiple workers that could be affected. Granted, they are not universal so not applicable to all employers, but this would be an example of how a poorly thought out policy could have unexpected consequences

I haven't eaten subsidised food since 1989. Bring it back, or give me a double cab ute so I can join all the other middle aged men.
