We had beer, books, movies, TV, coffee threads. Why not this then?

I bought a bottle of Johnnie Walker XR (aged 21 years) in Sydney yesterday. Very smooth, although quite heavy:



Usually drink Glenlivet or Talisker when out and about but this one is really nice.

KiwiNZ: Jack Daniels has the e in Whiskey as well.


Bourbon and Corn Whiskey follow the Irish spelling.

JimmyC: If full and smokey is your preferred flavour profile, try Johnny Walker Double Black. I believe it's only available duty free, haven't seen it anywhere else. It has additional Islay Malts in it making it much more full, round and smokey than the standard black label. Very reasonably priced too at around $60 for 1ltr.


Its available, but the 1L version is only for the duty free market. The 700ml retail version I've picked up for $50 on sale, but its usually around $75.
I enjoy it as an everyday sipper, but for the price, I think I won't be buying it regularly. Paying single malt prices for blends that are 40% ABV, is something I simply refuse to do now.

Late to the party here, but is that the  Bunnahabhain 97 heavily peated (signatory bottling)  (matured in hogsheads?)

I don't usually like  Bunnahabhain, but quite like that.


Bunnahabhain Toiteach is the pinnacle of smokey Islay whisky for me. Shame its no longer available.
You may want to look out for and independent bottling of Gordon and MacPhail Bunnahabhain Heavily Peated 8 year old.
