As someone who enjoys good beer I thought a beer thread was way overdue in here. So let this be the place to discuss all things beer, beer you have tried and would like to recommend, beer to avoid, beer events etc.

Living in Wellington we are blessed with good places to try and buy beer so I thought I would throw my thoughts on beers in this thread from now on.

Kind of like homework but fun.

This year will be my third Beervana, here in Wellington.

It's been a bit up and down. There were good elements of both so far but neither was perfect.

There is nothing better than home brew by someone who knows what they are doing.

If you have to buy it the Folk and Brewer is good and the Tuatara Pilsner gets my nod.

At the first one was the better venue (the town hall) from a atmosphere perspective, I really didn't like Under the Stands at Westpac. It was cold, windy and often felt like drinking in a concret alley. Also it's a hike to anywhere to drink afterward.

The second was a lot better organised with the ticket system for buying beer and the integration of food and beer.

In a perfect world what I want is an atmosphere which encourages me and my friends to go get different beers and then sit at a table and discuss what we are drinking. Both came close in different ways but if you could have combined the two that would be been excellent.

I'll still be going this year. The people and the beer is well worth it.

Always wanted to try Green Man Organic Brewery's Enrico's Cure, limited edition a few years ago that cost $30 a 330ml bottle... if a remember rightly was nearly 20%.

I'm a big fan of anything by Green Man, Wigram Brewery, The Brew Moon, Epic Brewery and Three Boys. Main stream wise I'm partial to Monteiths.

Great concept for a thread!

Yup, quite a fan of the Craft Beer Capital ;)

Don't tend to drink out as much these days, but Hop Garden, HashigoZake and Malthouse are always on the agenda when heading out for some of the sweet nectar.

Myself and my flatmate are slowly working our way through Thorndon New Worlds 450+ beers, my current favourites are 8 Wired - Hopwired and Tuatara APA (American) but my all time favourite would have to be Epic's HopZombie, still gutted it will be at least 2013 until we see it back.

Haven't made it to a Beervana thus far, always seem to be out of the country when they're on.

Be my second Beervana this year. Loved the first. Thought it was awesome, sooo many good beers. I do quite a bit of homebrew myself. Using BIAB technique started producing some nice tasting beers, mates aren't really into the craft beer but that's all good. More for me haha! still learning though. Love most Emersons, 8 wired, Tuatara and Epic. Cheers!

OMG beer. <3

Going down to beervana for my 2nd year this year.
If you get in in the first session early, you can follow people in who tilt their glasses and spill their beer tokens everywhere and don't even notice.
I tried to give peoples tokens back the first two times I saw this happen, but they melted into the crowd too quickly for me to catch up, after that it was all "Score! Free beer".

You guys in Wellington are so lucky. All we have here in Hamilton is House (a craft beer pub), Gothernburg (a tapas places) and the Ruakura Campus club (a chartered club), for good beer.

Anyone in Hamilton should come along to the House (on hood street) beer club on Thursdays from 5, a new craft beer each week on tap.

I've always have the view that it is easier to buy beer than milk in Wellington.

I want to know why sbiddle will never buy me a beer, even though I've shouted him many times.

Is sbiddle really the beer scrooge?

I love anything Three Boys and the new Boundry Road Chocolate Moose is my guilty pleasure.

Best beer by far IMHO is Sprig & Fern Porters!! Far too easy to drink lol

Anyone else go to X-Ale recently?

@kiwitrc Hashigo is pretty cool - it's described as a cult beer bar. My mate started a brewery called Funk Estate with some dudes recently and they launched it there a week ago.
