Does anyone use and HVR4000 connected to sky? Or a PVR150 for that matter. I guess I have two issues

I have two tuners, PVR150 and and HVR4000.

The HVR4000 picks up standard freeview fine (haven't tried HD yet, no UHF aerial). When I try to take the signal from the sky box (using RCA to S-Video cable), the picture is pixellated and not worth watching.

I run my sky box through the PVR150 easily enough via RCA and the picture quality is ok. If I run the sky box directly into the TV via RCA the picture quality is better, and I assumed that this was because of the PVR.

Any suggestions anyone or anyone else with this problem?

Thanking any help in advance.

What software are you using? Unlike the mce150 the hvr3000/4000 cards don't have an onboard mpeg2 encoder so are not as good as the 150 for analogue recordings.

I'm using XP MCE for sky with the PVR150, but it doesn't like the HVR4000.

I use the hauppage WinTV software for the HVR4000.  Don't have to use it very often, usually only on a Sunday night when the missus wants Greys Anatomy recorded (which I record from freeview) and I'm trying to watch a movie on C4 (via sky).

I am hardly using the HVR4000 at all.  I tried Cyberlink Power cinema, WinTV, and the IMON software which came with my silverstone case.  All of them had the same pixellated picture with the HVR4000 connected to the sky box.

Codecs: I have the K-Lite Codec Megapack installed.

I have the analogue feed from my Sky box running along an RG6 cable to my HVR4000, though the picture won't get picked up in mediaportal as there is no hardware decoding on the card, the win tv software gets an acceptable picutre out of it. I had tried this previously on standard RG59 cable and the picture was terrible and breaks up all the time. I am assuming though that if i used the rca cables from the sky box i could also get a picturte in win tv.

But if you already have a PVR150 you may aswell use that for analogue feeds as its going to give you much better results due to the hardware decoding, i would just use the HVR4000 for DVB-S and DVB-T if you ever get it.

Are there better cards than the PVR150 that are compatible with XP MCE and also have an on board hardware decoder?

The video from the PVR is no where near as good as direct from the sky box to the TV.
