Hi,

Sky Sport 1 & 2 are now Widescreen, I believe they are taking a SD version of the HD stream as the logo is in the far right corner, rather than top of the 4:3 frame position.

I aim to misbehave.

Well spotted with the logo.  Had me fooled for a minute.  Does that mean people who have their decoder set to centre-cut so they can watch in alley-vision don't have to look at the logo?

So by my count they only have 23 of the main channels to go into WS!  That and taking the encryption off their Prime signal.

is this only for people with the new mysky hdi boxes?

do people who have the old sky decoders(not mysky1, but the decoders that cannot record) receive skysport 1 and 2 in widescreen?

Hi,

It is SD as I do not think any customers have HDi yet, only employees.

I aim to misbehave.

Agree 100%! I presume that SS1/SS2 have gone WS in preparation for next week's HD rollout. SS3 is still 4:3 so I hope you are right about the others going WS in the near future.

Cyril, I notice that some music videos on the specialist music channels show in the wrong proportion on a 4:3 signal and manually switching my TV to 16:9 makes them display correctly. Is there any physical difference between a 4:3 and 16:9 signal or does the STB/TV just manipulate the transmitted picture to get the correct aspect ratio. I notice that TV parlance refers to horizontal lines only, like 576 or 720, where computers. etc use full dimensions, like 720x576 or 1280x720.

I saw the rugby this afternoon on SS1 in WS. All the graphics were using the full screen width like the rugby channel. It is going to replay on SS3 at 18:30 tonight, presumably in 4:3. This could be interesting... Tongue out

sounds like its transmitted in 16:9 but not flagged as such so the STB thinks it 4:3 and tells your TV the same, then again music videos can be all over the place.

And SS Highlights as well, but not SS3. What gives? Undecided

I suppose... Doing SS1/SS2 by themselves made sense since they are going to HD next week, but then to upgrade SS Highlights to 16:9 as well, while leaving SS3 in 4:3 is rather perplexing, hence my earlier question about bitrates. As a motorsport fan my box tends to spend a lot of time on SS3.

And in other Sky news.  I was scanning thru the channels and saw one of the worst logo's I've ever seen.  The nasty large solid logo on MGM.  THis was during a movie.  Gee get rid of  it quick..
