GRRR...im getting frustrated now. Wanted a digital audio connection from my DVD player to my sony amp/decoder, so went and bought a Toslink-Toslink cable(since my dvd player has optical output). Now I didn't bother to check my home theatre if it had optical input since it is a new system(and my DVD player about 5 years old).

Just so happens my sony amp has a coax input for dvd audio, while my DVD player has only optical output!!. Can I get a optical-coax adapter/converter/cable?

No - you are stuck there. Generally coax carries picture and audio. At least mine does. My amp has audio and video out.

aha! no actually I found one from jaycar electronics. its a small device that has an optical input(Toslink) and a RCA output. cost about $50.

my dvd player has a digital(optical) audio output whereas my sony amp had a coax(RCA) audio input, so this device was just what i was looking for and after testign it, it works just fine as my amp can now automatically detect the type of encoding on the audio of the DVD.
